have to agree with oldboy and dead mans shoes, both excellent movies. another good one is Ravenous (1999) with guy pearce and robert carlyle, story pretty much centres around cannabilism with lots of dark humour thrown in. Another ive just been reminded of cos i just saw an advert for it is In Bruges with colin farrell, one of the funniest movies ive watched

I hope it's infectious! I'm a bit of a buff (every Empire since June '94, since I was 13!), but I love getting ideas from other people. I hold a lot of opinions on here in high esteem, so it's good to hear what others recommend.

Am I right in thinking this was called The Ordeal in English? If so, that's a pretty good film! It's the dancing in the pub that made me think it might be this; nothing but guys and one fella battering the * out of a piano.

Session 9. Technically a 'horror' starring Peter Mullen (Mother Superior from Trainspotting) and David Caruso (CSI). There's no mad killer, the baddie is mental illness/psychoticness itself. Can't really describe it tbh.

Special - movie about a guy who has a adverse reaction to a new kind of anti-depressent and becomes dilusional thinking he is a superhero, walking through walls and fighting crime, very funny and sad movie.

Yeah, it is class. Even the subtitles never put me off it. The follow up, city of men is ok. Nowhere near as good as this though.

Powder is kinda cool, has Geoff Goldbloom in it. A boy is born, when his pregnant mother gets hit by lightning & he has special powers - really cookie & emotional, great acting - that Lance Henrickson guy is in it too. Excellent movie.

The Big Blue, by Luc Besson -freediving movie, but with some excellent romantice & philosophical undertones, as with most Besson movies, Jean Reno is in it & is brilliant.

I like the thin red line, a WW2 movie from a heroic pacifists view point, pretty philosophical too, sean penns in it & nick nolte.

Obviously Withnail & I, One flew over the cuckoos nest & anything with Madonna in it.

Alpha Dog - A depressing story about what happens when teenagers/young adults take their ned/gangster lifestyle too seriously.

American History X - Pretty well known but if you haven't seen it it's one of the best American movies... about Neo-* culture in Los Angeles.

Fight Club - Another big movie that surprisingly a lot of people haven't seen. One of my favorites and the intricacy of the story will surprise you by the end of it. I guarantee you. :50:

Chopper - Movie with Eric Bana from 2000 about an Australian gangster. There's good humor in it and a lot of violence.

Memento - If you see any film watch this one. A cult classic about a guy who has short term memory loss and the film starts from the end and goes backwards to prevent you from knowing what the character doesn't.

Two Hands, Oz film that gave Heath Ledger his big break is really good.
