Strachan hails "world class" Stan

Stilian Petrov has been lauded as “world-class” by Gordon Strachan, with the Celtic manager conceding that it was only the Bulgarian’s brilliance that prevented his side dropping two points at Rugby Park on Sunday.

The 26-year-old scored the game’s only goal with a trademark dynamic surge forward from midfield and his manager admits a below-par collective performance was only rescued by a player whose his stock - and value to Celtic – currently stands at an all-time high.

Speaking exclusively to the Celtic website, Strachan said: “It was a terrific goal from a world-class player. That was the difference between us and Kilmarnock. I had a world-class player in my team and Jim didn’t.

“Stan’s been outstanding for us on a pretty consistent basis this season and he’s a fantastic asset to this club. He could play in any team, I honestly believe that.”

It’s now five months to the day that Strachan first took up the managerial reins at Celtic Park and, having devoted a significant portion of that time to assessing the club’s players – from youth to senior level – the Hoops boss believes that he now knows not only who’s ready for the present, but also who can be earmarked for the future.

“I do feel that I now have a very good idea about the players here,” he said.

“I watch as many games as I can and I’ve enjoyed finding out more about our young boys by getting along to the youth and reserve matches.

“There’s certainly talent there and you’ll find that there are a lot of youth players involved regularly in first team training these days, and they’re a great bunch to work with. I’d also hope that they’ll have seen that, if they prove they deserve it, I will give them a chance.”

 

True True Petrov is a class act!

 

Never doubted Petrov. Strachan should now give him an improved, extended contract to prove his worth.

Thompson used to be , Maloney, McGeady and Pearson have the potential to be.

 

no doubt about it, petrov is our most valuable player and quite simply is the star of the current team

 

He's a world class player, our only one imo, wayoot him we would be in a far worse state then we are currently.

 

If you say Hartson, Lennon, Sutton, Beattie then why Zurawski
is not on that list ??? He's at least as good as them if not
much better.

 

hard to decide after a couple of games. imo no new signing should be judged after a little number of games. they shall be judged after the season.

 

But Celtic Man wasn't judging those player's performances in
Celtic - he just said world class players are blah blah blah
and he didn't mention Zurawski.

"Little number of games" ??? Zurawski played 230 matches
in Polish Ekstraklasa and scored 120 goals plus a loads of goals
in European Cups and Polish NT.

If Hartson, Sutton, Lennon or Beattie are world class then
Zurawski is Universe Class

 

A think they mean after so few games way Celtic mate A like the look of Zurawski mysel think he looks a good neat player, can hit a ball well too. A personally don't think any Celtic players are world class except from Petrov.

Spot on, Petrov is far better than the likes of Zurawski, Hartson and lennon. He is always the best player on the park even when celtic are below par, which was the case of sunday.

 

you have to see most of us havent seen many zurawski games before he joined our squad. personally havent really heard anything from him before the talks with celtic. but id like what i seen from him and want to see as many games as possible featuring zurawski!

tbh no celtic player is world class. world class players are ronaldinho, adriano, shevshenko etc.

 

That sentence makes as much sense as "Boruc is far
better than the likes of Eto'o (...)"

It makes no sense comparing players
playing different positions.

 

Are you deliberately trying to be controversial. You get 1 world class player in Scotland every 10 yrs. i.e Larsson , Laudrop, Dalglish
8 in one team ? Good professionals who could cope in any league maybe, world class, no way
