I think Donati looks a lot better as an attacking midfielder than a defensive one

Me too, he shows drive and can hit them from distance... also his turnovers are less likely to be crucial mistakes from a more advanced position.

Strachan has a lot to answer for with regards to some of his central midfield signings, how could he not get the best out of guys like Jarosik/Gravesen who remember he invested a lot of money in. Strachans treatment of Donati has been pretty poor at stages, yes Donati went on a bad run but he was dropped for big games when he was actually playing well, his confidence took a huge knock.

Milan actually were recalling him into their squad last year after his success at Messina but it was Donati that forced the move. He was on huge wages at Milan and they wouldnt sell him to another top 4 club and the smaller teams couldnt afford his fee or wages due to the serious financial problems in Serie A hence the loan moves.

He has a lot to offer and his reputation is still very big in Italy (My family are from Rome)

Love Donati, think he's good a lot of talent and is just starting to show it. Keep playing the man, I think he'll do just fine; pushes forwards and creates chances which is a good quality for a midfielder.

Totally disagree. I dont think he's good enough. Aye he can play the odd decent pass but he loses the ball a lot, doesnt seem to look interested and totally slows the play down. If there are no injury worries at the turn of the year he'll be off in January, and i'll be happy

No way am i writing the guy off yet. Am not saying am a fan but the signs over the past few weeks is that he's starting to find his feet so for me to ignore that and write him off would just be holding a grudge.

He's had 1 season.. 1 season.. how many players walk into a new country and command a midfield in their first season? Hardly any. How many players walk into a club with someone else who is moving to the club and click right away? Hardly any.

Brown was getting used to new surroundings and donatti was adapting to Scottish life and Scottish football. I respect him for not jumping ship and trying to stick it out.

I think he can come good, wether or not he does is a different matter.

It's difficult for a player like him to come on as a substitute because his whole game is based on picking out runs with his passing ability but when he comes on the team is winding down and conserving their energy for the next game so he has no options for the pass.I think that's why he's been running with the ball more in his substitute appearances, simply because no-one is moving for him so he has to make something happen for himself.

It seems to me that most people have a problem with Donati giving the ball away too often which is a fair point...but remember when folk used to get on Lennon's case for never playing a forward pass and always going square with it. It's obviously much more difficult to play a good forward pass and therefore you are more likely to give the ball away. Personally, I think Donati can learn when to play a simple square ball and retain possession easier than some other players can learn how to pick out a good attacking ball.

I still am undecided and keep changing my mind. I think the main questions about him are his character, his ability to play in a rough game and also his ability to tackle. I think he has many of the same good characteristics that we see in Crosas but there is a mental weakness and an inability to scrap IMO. I agree with those who wonder if he might be better as the attacker in a pairing. He rarely tackles, usually barges and gives away fouls when forced to close down. That may be down to needing to adapt so I would be happy to give him some game time now and keep him till the end of the season anyway. At the very least he is a useful sub/ our only cover for Hartley, Brown or Robson with Crosas out. So I have no problem with him being here at all.

Its interesting that Lenny commented on how good Donati is a couple of times early in the season. He would be a very good judge of a CM. The competition is now fierce but Crosas is out and Hartley usually misses quite a few so he may play yet. I also think we now have better quick thinking players further forward like Maloney and Samaras who might benefit from his quick accurate long passing.

Crosas is smaller, slower, weaker, and less experienced than Donati. If Donati can come through I think he can be brilliant. He just has to go a little bit further mentally and then he'll be there.

Also, Crosas has played what... 5-7 games for us? There's no way we can come to a conclusion that quickly... he's done well and should continue to get games when fit, but it's irrational to already state that he's better than Donati.

Another cracking performance against Kilmarnock for Donati, the more i see him the more i believe he's through his settling in period and is starting to live up to his big reputation.

Keep it up Massimo, your doing great ma man :50: :shamrock:

I think I said this in another thread but Donati seems to be trying more you can see it in his face he wants to play for Celtic. He knows hes not guarenteed a start and has to earn it and hes showing it. Hes trying to make the jersy fit him.
