I am thinking of becoming a celtic fan because I am getting into Scottish football.

I see that people say that Celtic is a club for everyone, no matter what race or creed.

The question I'd like to ask is, if I went to a celtic fc pub, would I be welcome if I was a Protestant Unionist.

The reason I pick Celtic instead of Rangers, is because I want to back a great football club and I think Celtic are the most entertaining to watch in Scotland.

So this choice has nothing to do with Politics or Religion (cos I'm sure they are a few people that go for this celtic minded/ rangers minded stuff that would say I am more rangers minded )

I am thinking of backing Celtic because I think they are the best to watch.

Anyways, with my views. Am I welcome? and will most celtic fans in the pubs treat me as an equal and respect my views if we for whatever reason got talking about politics?

I see so much in the media, like the IRA chants, Anti-British stuff etc that I dunno what to think.

So I though i'd ask you guys, if I am welcome to support celtic (dispite not being "celtic minded").

Well were you a rangers fan before?

If not then you will be welcomed of course.

Everyone is welcome to support Celtic FC, except those who chant IRA songs in the terraces, they are the ones who are trying to bring the club down.

My flat mate is a protestant unionist and a Celtic fan so you certainly wouldn't be the only one. Celtic FC open to everyone from any background :huddle:

Given your views, would you be able to fully respect the ethos of Celtic Football Club?

You would be welcome if you can respect everything that the club stands for. Supporting any club just because they are winning isnt enough tbh, plenty of people in Ireland do that with EPL clubs and its pretty pathetic if you ask me.

Celtic is more than just a club and that needs to be embraced if you want to fully accepted as a Celtic fan given that people will be skeptical about your motives given your background. They'll just think you are on a wind up or something.

    Hmmmmmm.

    A) You may or may not be a WUM.

Why are you LOOKING for a team to support? If you wanna support Celtic by all means you'll be welcome no matter who you are. although you will already have decided. I would think. Are you goinmg round the forums and waiting for the best answer before you decide on who to support. I find it difficult to take your question as anything othe rthan tongue in cheek, but who knows. I can't see anybosy having a problem with it.

Celtic is a great club with a superb respected support. I am a season ticket holder, I am English, however, I possess neither any Catholic or Irish connections but I have supported this club for 31 years and respect the culture (admittedly not my own) from whence it came. I hate the IRA stuff at away games but that is the out put of a small minority, come and join us I say, you will never look back, it is a great institution to follow and be a part of, quite simply, it is special and unique!

What are the ethos of the club Dempsey?

I am not anti catholic or anti irish.

I simply want to support a football club that I think plays good football.

I just wanted to ask for the simple reason that I aware that some away fans do believe in the IRA and Anti Unionism.

I guess in a sense I was wondering if celtic fans do welcome you no matter what or if it is more a "with us or against us" scenario like the media likes to report.

I have looked on the celtic website and I see no reason why I can't support Celtic.

I wouldn't go to cause trouble and there is no chance of me signing the pro IRA stuff that Celtic is trying to get rid of.

At the end of the day, this is a football club not a political arena.

If I am coming to enjoy a good game of football and put my money into the club, then what is the crime?

    is that fair enough?

there's no crime in it. i think thats unanimous. celtic is a club open to all, always had been, always will be. if you were speaking to some1 in a pub and it came up you were both a celtic fan and a "protestant unionist", the huge majority of celtic fans would have no issue whatsoever.

I say fairs fair to y our reasoning Mickey. Celtic is a pro-football institution and welcomes all. Tbh, I'm still surprised that you'r elooking for a club but I just remembered my m-in-law discovered she loved football at age 63. Avid Real Madrid supporter and it's weird for my wife to see her maother and her man watch football together - and argue too.

Support Celtic. But think it through first. Go for it. But if we go through a * patch don't defect to Chelsea or Panathinaikos is all I say. Keep your dignity, man.

Nor do any other Celtic supporters so welcome to the greatest club in the world. :50:

    Remember:
100,000 Celtic fans in Seville for UEFA Cup final, 0 arrests
80,000 Rangers fans in Manchester for UEFA Cup final, city wide riots

15,000 Celtic fans in Barcelona, 0 arrests and we clean up after ourselves
10,000 Rangers fans in Barcelona, countless arrests and monuments destroyed

I could easily go on. But if you are not interested in being a bigot and dont want to cause trouble, you have picked the right club to support in Scotland :50:

    Social Charter

You brought up your political view and religion as a possible issue. They arent really anything got to do with supporting the club.

Celtic isnt just a football club though, there is more to it than that

2 reasons I started supporting Celtic after I decided that soccer (there i said it) was more entertaining than the american alternative sports that have bored me since I am 10 years old.

    1) Celtic is a big underdog on the European tournament scene, but tends to punch above its weight class and produce some fantastic memories (wins over Barca , Man U, Milan, Juve from a few years back)

    2) I was attracted to the founding story of it beginning as a Catholic charity for poor Irish folks. I have a spot of Irish blood (raised in a fairly stereotypical NY Irish-Italian home) and identify with my religion.

As for republicanism and anti-Unionism. Its not something I really think much of. I have my own opinions on the subjects and have taken some opportunities to research them at my University and on my own for thesis research. I don't feel the need to bring these opinions to supporting Celtic. I would prefer that everybody show up not to * off the perceived protestant establishment, but to support our underdog club (or in SPL games, our invincibles).

Welcome to the support, enjoy it.

I am a protestant and a holder of a UK pass port and love my country, namely The UK, and believe in our constitution from the "top down", i.e. the monarchy etc but I also love supporting Celtic and respect the fact that some of my fellow supporters might disagree with me, however, many of this clubs "elite" have embraced the UK Establishment and good luck to them, eg Robert Kelly took a knighthood and a number of former Managers and players have accepted honours from the UK Government (not least one Martin O Neil, not exactly known for his pro UK sympathys!) therefore, I feel that any UK citizen should be welcome, the key is "respect others" this is a quailty most Celtic supporters with possess in abundance.

It's all about respect, treat people the way you expect to be treated.

On my first trip to Celtic Park the other week no was bothered in the slightest that i was English, it doesn't matter....

Every Celtic fan I've ever met has respected my heritage and my opinions, just the same as I've respected theirs, that's all that matters, we might have differing views but we don't resort to violence, instead just treating it as one man's opinion against another's.

Sheffield Wednesday will always be my number one team, that's natural, but Celtic are a great club with great fans, and i look forward to returning to Parkhead in the near future. So in response to the guy asking the original questions about supporting Celtic, then go for it mate

I think we are missing the point.

Do you have big breast and like to "party", if so, you are always welcome, if not, I don't really care who you support.

First post pretty interesting, can not help but think you are fishing, but welcome if you are geniune.
