It is. the next young barca player will come in on the same blueprint i.e. with a buy back clause and % of next sale clauses like the Crosas deal. Crosas was the guinea pig, Suarez rang Crosas to get the story on Celtic and only then was interested.

Its all these clauses together is what makes it an evolved version of the feeder club system except there is more risk for the feeder club.

Time will tell but Barca and Spanish clubs generally are notorious for inserting similar clauses.

They already have a b-side as well so they could have farmed him out there if need be.

If they send us any more with similar class, I will be more than happy. Think how much he might have cost if we didnt have a good relationship with them.

That was the problem, he needed to play at a higher level than their B side.

If this was any other club, people would be calling a spade a spade instead or trying to word it differently. Its a feeder setup. Its a glorified loan deal and the way Lawwell and Barca are talking, this is going to happen alot more.

Well as I said, i think its too early to consider it a 'feeder' set-up. Until tens of spaniards start flying into Glasgow I wont be convinced of that.

The deal does seem to be lopsided in barcas favour, but we paid peanuts for him in todays market and he looks to be a snip.

I suppose it comes down to your own interpretation of the contract. It's alien to a lot of us as Celtic fans but not to those on the continent.

Would you rather we never had the chance at the cream of Barca's young talent (no matter for how long or short) and get paid for it or leave it as is. It's not as if we're out of pocket through the Crosas deal, we're either getting a quality player out of it or financial reward and 2 years of service.

No matter how big we think we are we can't compete with the biggest and best, the only difference between say Crosas going back to Barca and Boruc going to Man United, or wherever for talking sake, is that it's in writing with the Crosas deal. The biggest clubs buy the best players and they'll get them by buying them or inserting clauses in former promising youth player's contracts. That's the way i read it anyway rather than the condescending term 'feeder' club.

Spot on, the way i see this is it's a very low risk win-win situation for us.

As Dempsey says, the reason Barça farmed him out and will do so with others is that the Barça B are usually in the equivalent of 3rd or 4th Divisions. (2B or Tercera), where the standard is like the Scottish first at best but ultra defensive. Really boring. I know cos I've seen plenty of it. Crowds of 800 or so, and that the biggest.

They'll be inetersted in exposing players to charged atmosphere and knowing that the boy is good, he'll get some experience of Europe, and also the responsibility of must win situations, the crowd on your back. I certainly don't see a serious risk for Celtic except in the trems of disruption of a stable squad or a squad that becomes dependent on that player. Even at that, these problems can always be bypassed, but as I said, we'll have to see what happens. In essence it might work like a feeder system but there are a lot of conveninet aspect to it too.

My main concern in this is celtic having a settled team ,say we had 2 players on this set-up from barca ,and they showed us that they can play at any level ,and the fans had really taken to these guys ,then all of a sudden barca have watched these guys flourish and want then back ,where does that leave celtic ,in a word unsettled.

If i could pick one team Celtic to be a feeder club to it would be Barca so if so im not too bothered if not then im probably happier. The way Crosas has worked out and singing the praises of Celtic I think every Barca star that keeps in contact with him and isnt seein much first team football is thinking yeh i want to go there too.

The way i view it is this: a player who comes over would have to play pretty * well for Barca to want him to come back and play for their first team. If Barca thinks a player who plays for us is good enough for them then that player would be signed by a bigger club anyway.

The only clubs that can keep a group of players together with any confidence for say, 5 years are the ten biggest clubs in the world. If a player continuously plays exceptionally well for us he will get signed by a bigger club. The main reason that Henke is such a legend at Celtic is because he could have moved on earlier in his career but chose to stay, which is almost unheard of anymore for a player in his prime.

I reckon we'd be lucky to get two seasons out of any player playing at a very high level before he would move on. Maloney lasted one, McGeady played out his skin last year and if he does the same this year then he'll be off, the reason Boruc didn't go this summer was because of his price tag. We may not need to sell our star players but eventually their agents will start whispering in their ears that they should be playing on a bigger stage, lets face it, six games in the CL and four against Rangers hardly make up for a Wednesday night in January against Hamilton, or worse last year, Gretna.

Feeder club to Barca, are we *, or have I forgotten who we got our latest player from? And I'm not counting Derry City!

By all means, they can take Samaras, wouldn't mind Messi playing in the green and white.

Yes we have a great relationship with Barca and they're probably the best club around to be pals with, we aren't european giants anymore, but we aren't a * feeder club either. We've a lot more respect than that, unlike a certain other cuntish club that plays in blue.

Are Man United Barcelona's feeder club then?

Pique joined Man United from Barca then went back, only difference between that and Crosas is Man U pinched Pique from a young age rather than going through a more conventional route such as a contract with clauses.

I think those opposing it might have an issue with the pride factor, we're never going to be anyone's feeder club, no Celtic fan would allow it for a start.

Would have no problem with being a feeder club and would like to see us being one for Barcelona. In European terms we are a pot 3 team no matter how big we think we are. We need a better quality of player to improve this and if this is the only way to do it then i welcome it. We shouldn't be embarassed to be linked to a club like Barcelona.

I always thought a feeder club was owend by the bigger club and they took any player they liked the look of....thats not what is going on here.
How can we really lose...? we pay a fee for a rather good player and he playes in our side for two years, most contracs only run for three years.I dont see celtic taking over so many from barca that our team is filled with short term players and we dont have a settled team.
Sadly most players will move on to the epl its a fact of life and there is not alot we can do about it,should that stop us taking them into our team...? i dont think it should even if only one or two resign a further three years we will do well.Dont forget barca deal with first team players worth 20/30/40million....so crosas could well reach a value of 20 million and they might not want him back and even if he then got sold on and we made 5/6/7million on his sale would that not be a good thing.
I think celtic will get access to some good players and maybe make a bit of money out of this deal.
Barca will get some of their players a taste of playing for a really big club....hail hail.

At a feeder club the club doesn't own the players that have been loaned to them and they are obliged to play them in the first team. They also have to give the parent club first option on any of their own players. These are fundamental differences to our agreement with Barca so no I don't think we're a feeder club.

The method of how Pique went back to Barcelona was completely different to Crosas deal here. The comparison is completely ridiculous.

I think fans are sticking their heads in the sand about it, some of the responses to my question reflect this completely because they dont even address the issue.

No feeder club is obliged to play a loaned player.

The fundamental of a feeder setup isnt first options, its the parent club being able to send their players to another club to play first team football in an agreement where the player will return to the parent if they decide to active clauses in the agreement. The feeder doesnt have a choice.

Loans are one way, buy back is another. More Barca reserve players will be coming here with clauses to resign them. Celtic cant block the move.

With any other club, its a feeder club style setup. You all realise that feeder setups can differ to what is defined & used in football manager

I said "undecided" as there is only one instance of this so far. Undoubtedly, however, if the current plethora of rumours are true, then it's looking more and more like we are indeed becoming their feeder facility. The question of whether i am happy about such a scenario is complex - on one side, i think "* that - we're CELTIC and no * feeder team to any *"

Then on the other side, i think "if it's good for the team, then why not." In the end, i suppose the head must rule the heart; success means more to me than pride on this occasion.

On the subject of these players having to get regular first team football, the boy Niguez at Rangers (on loan from Valencia?) has yet to get a game, so that theory is swiftly put to bed...
