I dont think he has any intention of leaving Everton, just manouvering a better pay deal for himself and if reports are to be believed, a 5 year deal at 60,000 a week seems a good deal!

Some interesting replies. I was under the impression that Strachan was pretty unpopular. I know from when I was living in Scotland, that quite a few of the Celtic lads that I knew disliked him. Plus the media seemed to stoke it up a lot last year with constant re-examinations of Celtic under Strachan. They were only to eager to point out that not all Celtic fans were enamoured with him. I even remember the last Old Firm game when it was speculated whether some fans wanted Celtic to lose, merely to add that nail in his already closing coffin. Good to see that you stand by your manager who hasn't done a bad job at all.

With reference to Moyes, there is something going on behind the scenes at Everton. Basically, many think that he's had enough and his performance as manager this year has been dire to say the least. He's always had a tendency to look like someone has just slapped him around the face with a wet kipper, but this season he looks like 100 people have just done that to him. One of the debates going on now is whether he's ready to jump ship and Celtic is the name that keeps coming up. In fact, the idea that Moyes will end up managing Celtic seems to be on everyones mind. Even the local media are constantly mentioning whether he'll be tempted up there sometime soon. Hence, I thought I'd check with you guys to see whether there was a possibility that Strachan was ready for pastures new. I think if Strachan went, Moyes would be up there like a shot. He might have supported Rangers (spit) as kid, but I think Celtic is the club that he feels his home now. :shamrock:

You're right about him transforming Everton. After Smith :31:, which were dark days indeed, Moyes was able to pick up the spirit and get bog standard players to be passionate. His chief skill is in motivating players and instilling a winning mentality. On the negative side, his football is terrible to the eye. He's a hoofball man and considered technically inept. He's also a ditherer (Dithering Davey is his nickname). If you want Moyes to make a decision, then give him 6 months and he might just get back to you. Imagine what it's like when the team is chasing a game and Davey makes no changes until it is too late. Such an occurence is regular, and he's getting a bad press for it. He's good in the market, particularly at the lower end. He is able to pick up exciting players for relatively little outlay. Lescott, Arteta and Cahill cost less than £10m for all three. But again he has sometimes let people down with his inability to decide on a man and pursue him. This was seen this summer when he failed to make any purchase of note until deadline day. Then, of course, he panicked and bought what he could at considerable cost (Fellaini cost us £15m).

All in all, a good manager but not up to the standard of O'Neil, but probably better than Strachan.

I love the way David Moyes runs a football club, and would love him to be our next manager.

Yep if it aint broke dont fix it. Happy with wgs.

Even if we dont win the spl would still be happy with him, he is the only manager in our history to be at celtic more than a season and never lose a league title.

Wonder how Moyes would do with a summer budget like strachans?

Let me put it this way. Back when we were doing badly and everyone thought Strachan would (or should) be sacked, every time someone asked me who should replace him i said Davie Moyes.

A top top manager and while i've always supported Strachan, i think Moyes would do brilliant things for celtic.

By the sound of the everton fan, i think moyes's flaws sound exactly like strachan's. if wgs was to be replaced i'd like to see mowbary, it's been a long time since we seen a bit of inventive football, it would be such a breath of fresh air. although i'd have moyes a close second

i dont mind strachan but at times he just looks as if doesnt look interested although he looked determined for celtic to win on tuesday. you cant fault him for his brillant record though winning 3 league titles in 3 seasons. if strachan was to leave i think moyes would be a good manager to take over and i would welcome him to celtic. i would also like keane to manage us through time and also getting O'Neill back as he was a class manager!

gordon is a better manager for us. You never see strachan complaining about the budget, he just gets on the with the job. Moyes is always complaining about how hard it is to sign players and then he goes and signs some average player called fellaini for 15million. aye spot on davie :50:

excellent post mate:50: He would be a popular choice if WGS went. Personally I think WGS has a long term vision for the club with most of his signings and home development involving players under 25. If kept together, this squad wont peak for another 5 or 6 years. It would seem strange if he left before he saw the full benefit of Caddis, Caldwell, Brown, Crosas, McGeady, Maloney, Hutchinson, Samaras, McDonald etc who probably have an average age of 23 as well as some other very good youngsters like Sheridan and McGowan etc.

I think Keane is another interesting guy. He's hungry, like was Moyes was a few years ago. The man I would have at Everton in a shot, though, is your old boss O'Neil. He's by far the best "home-grown" man in the EPL and probably one of the top three in the country. It was a shame you lost him because I feel he would have built Celtic into a formidable force in Europe. But his wife came first, which is understandable. I'm not saying you would have competed with Man Utd and Real and the like (you need a couple of hundred milion for that) but I'm sure he'd have taken you regularly into the group stages of the CL, and beyond.

On another note, when we were kids back in the '80s, it was common for us little scally types (we knew no better, alas :52:) to wear combined Celtic/Everton colours. It used to be your mum would cut a Celtic and Everton hat in two, then stitch an Everton and Celtic side together. Our Redshite neighbours did it with the Rangers stuff, although not as passionately as us. In the end, you could even buy ready-made ones from the Everton shop. Happy days!

    It's a grand old team! :50:
