    Defo rent at the moment. You don't know how much more the house prices are going to drop and it's better to wait and wait, you could save a packet instead of losing one.

    as no-ones buying and everyones renting, then watch the prices being asked as rent will go through the roof. id rather pump my £* p/m into a mortgage than throwing it away monthly and lining the landlords pockets.

    if youve got savings/a deposit then youre in a good position as its a buyers market and you could potentially get somewhere decent as everyones trying to sell. but imo, just stay at home until the banks get their own act together - oh, and save, save, save!!

    As Fancy Pants has said, if you have a substantial deposit and a decent mortgage advisor then there's still no reason not to buy and own your own property.

    House prices, interest rates etc etc etc are all things that no one can steadfastly say will go up or down.

    I bought my house about 3yrs ago. Best thing i done, dont know how difficult it is now to get a mortgage at the min but u can only try, if u cant get one just rent, but buy as soon as u can because renting too long is just dead money!

    Anyone who is in the position to buy their council property via the right to buy scheme is laughing, They dont need a deposit and because their property will be valued at more than required mortgage they can also in most cases get extra on top.
