We were unlucky, and that's it. We held out bravely for 67 minutes, and it took a FK to beat us.

    Kyogo. A phenomenon
First half, solid. Passed it around nicely and it was 50-50.

Second half, they came out like we should have expected them to - hard and fast, dinging the ball all over the place and targeting the flanks. We looked tired, and unable to handle the pace of the game at that stage, and Crosas should have replaced Naka with Scotty B moving a bit up the park.

As for the goal - careless Hartley, careless.

No real positives, because we lost - nonetheless i was glad to see McManus put in a stint that will give him a lot of confidence, and i thought McGeady showed flashes of what he's capable of against a guy who was on him like a * limpet all game.

I can see us beating them at home, very much so, but IMO it's the UEFA at best for us, and i don't want to be going over to Denmark needing anything spectacular...

You pessimists need to untie the noose around your necks. Tonights performance was one of the best Celtic have turned out away from in the CL. Only other away games that have turned out better performances I think have been Juventus away, Barcelona away and possibly Benfica away. The tactics were spot on last night, we set up to defend and counter attack and we very nearly came close a good few times to knicking that lucky goal which has seen teams like scotland and rangers progress against strong european opposition. I'd be happy if we played like that most away games in europe because chances are we will walk away with points in the majority of the games. Villareal are a top class team and deservadly won but the new set up for away games looks very promising and I'm now less fearful of future trips away from parkhead in europe.

The problem was that we let ourselves get pushed back and then sat back in our penalty area for the whole second half insted of a 4-5-1/4-3-3 it was more like a 6-4-0 formation.

The second half started with Maloney getting raped on his side we needed him off and someone stronger on there and i really wonder if the manager and coaches were shouting at them to get up the park.

Really good first half but reverted to type in the second half:87:

Thought Maloney was the best out of him McGeady and Naka. Was surprised that he came off tbh.

I was quite impressed with Strachan trying a different line-up and we had good footballers in the attacking half of the pitch. Played quite well in the 1st half, but u dont get many chances and the ones u do get we have to take - Sammy. Boruc gave too much space at the free-kick, I was shouting at the tv and a shot on target with decent pace was always going to be a goal. He gave Senna too much space previously but Senna * that up.

Aalborg put a man on the line for Naka's free kicks why didn't we try that. They passed and moved the whole night through our team especially the 2nd half. You have to follow the runners But I wasn't too disappointed. Senna beat Brown every time he had the ball and the whole team did not close down players when they were in our half allowing them too much time on the ball. Samaras had a tough shift but rarely held the ball up. The failure to take all 3 points v Aalborg at home unfortunately will come back to haunt us.

I just had to quote you there !!!

Why dont we have good footballer's all over the park ??? that should be a prerequisite for being a Celtic Football Club player.

Like for e.g. Gary Caldwell what a super footballer he's turning out to be

Wilson. Like a wee lost boy, raped by every attacking player you can think off.
No pace whatsoever, no style, no chance. Simply not Celtic class, never will be.

well do we really deserve to progress we are a team with a great history and fans .we have a CE who only is interested in the bank balance we have a manager who has exceded his ability and we have players who really are well short of whats required.

dark days are on the horizon unless drastic action is taken and no amout of wins against your motherwells or kilmarnocks of this world will change the fact we are more or less a classless side

    hail hail

The better team won last night. We had a decent first half and then couldnt get a hold of the ball in the second half. Not our worst away performance by any stretch of the imagination.

I was amused by the tabloid's giving Wilson decent ratings, is it a case of him being Scottish or are Celtic fan's blind and he actually played well?

For me he was that bad i'd drop him altogether, 3rd or 4th choice right back.

Has anyone looked at the third place teams as of today? Thanks to the "heroics" of teams such as Cluj and Anorthosis some very good teams could go to UEFA Cup. As of today: Roma, Celtic, Werder Bremen, Lyon, Sporting Lisbon, Dynamo Kyiv, Marseille, BATE. The universe is conspiring against us this year. :54:

I thought we played well. We defended better than I thought we could and had some nice passing moves up until the final third. I wouldnt say we posed any real threat upfront which in the end let us down. That lot were diving all game and it took a good goal to beat us. Its not looking good to go through but we were not that bad.

The Evening Times singled out Lee Naylor as the weak link in the side against Villarreal and made no mention of Wilson.Hinkel is better than him and Caddis should be ahead of him in the pecking order as well.

:56: I feel sorry for you mate. I really would hate to live in your world of doom and gloom. By any chance is your location hades? haha. If you bothered to read all I said previous I mentioned that we deserved to get beat yet it was one of the better performances we've turned out away from home.

When you say "no top flight club anywhere would allow that to continue" what do you mean? That celtic should refuse to participate in away matches in the champions league because we have a really bad record? Get a grip.

We're Celtic football club, we're more than just a european away day statistic. It's people like you that were calling for Strachans head near the end of last season then after the 90 minutes in Dundee we're singing "Championees".
