Being realistic though, just to qualify is good enough for me, we're way down the pecking order when it comes to spending money and when you look at the number of clubs across europe who can, will and do outspend us and attract much better players, just being in the group stages is huge for us.
I just hope we put up a decent fight in every game and avoid humpins. We only made the last 16 thanks to home form and a large dose of luck, it was always going to run out and it has.

Isn't it just great the huns aren't in it!!!

Mate I love ramming it up every hun that they're not in Europe, trust me nothing gives me more pleasure but as far as we're concerned I hold our board and Lawell in particular professionally negligent in that they failed to secure our manager's first choice signing targets. We should be light years ahead of anyone in Scotland and should stand a better than average chance of progressing through any group stage, but we're not and we don't.

If we're talking CL then let's take a look at Villareal and where they were and are now. 20,000 season ticket holders and second in La Liga with a side who have been accused of punching above their weight, but I don't buy that. They have an owner who believes in the game being played the way it was meant to be played and who's backed that up with a new stadium and funds to buy players. Result is they had a player who refused a move to Real Madrid because he wanted to stay and play with Villareal. To me that speaks volumes about the club and the people who run it. We're an institution and have roots that go back 110 years but more and more we're being turned into a corporate animal reliant on advertising packages and merchandising for our profits. That's all well and good but I just keep thinking we're losing our focus regarding the playing side and not enough is being put back into that aspect. It doesn't bode well for this season, never mind the future!

I know the above sounds negative but it's my honest thoughts. If we lose tonight I just keep thinking it could be a watershed moment and that if the people who run our board don't commit to backing the manager with deeds rather than just words we could be looking at a very hard few years in terms of trophies!
