I don't mind people singing rebel songs at the game and to be honest with you i'd join in. But , now the club is under scrutiny and although I don't think the songs are sectarian , the higher powers eg. Fifa and Uefa probably do. So if singing rebel songs at the games , is going to damage the club then I might to think twice about singing them.

I agree completely, I love the songs but they are not for Celtic Park, simple as that.

nothing wrong with singing Irish ballads at celtic park, the problem is with singing songs directly connected to the irish republican army. at the end of the day fields of athenry and let the people sing are irish ballads and they are allowed , so lets not get mixed up with them both ,where by we wont be singing any songs at all connected to ireland .at the end of the day celtic are an Irish club that happend to be based in Scotland .so lets not forget our roots and identity by giving the p.c. brigade an excuse to ban all songs related to old ireland.

Shoe on other foot. When orange bands were invited to Dublin a few years ago there were riots. The reason: there is a time and a place for most things and Dublin is not the place for British nationalistic marching. Scotland is not a sensible venue for singing songs about organisations that 90% likely do not support and find offensive. Its actually worse that its at away games because a higher percentage of the crowd will take offence.

There are many people, myself included (and plenty of other tims) who found pira methods utterly disgusting at times (pub bombs etc) and would not condone them on moral or religious grounds.

or put a lot simpler - this site has shown how varied peoples political and moral standpoints are (everything from marxists to tories) so why should one political point of view be inflicted on all. Its a broad church. I know several people who are scared off by the politics.

As for the last highlighted section, sorry to shake you out of your delusion but yes it does mean you cannot go to CP and celebrate your beliefs, especially if they are not connected to CFC and are illegal, or offensive to the majority. Our club has nothing to do with the murderers and drug runners who called themselves freedom fighters while slaughtering women and kids and I for one hate the fact that some still try to make some connection between us. We were founded by a pious individual with the vision that we could make a difference to the impoverished people in the east end of Glasgow. No criteria were put on whether those poor were Catholic, Protestant or any other faith. No connection was made with an Irish republican movement either. That came through a fan base who were predominantly irish catholic and who connected to the republican movement. The fact that some people seem to think we have a deep connection with the IRA is repugnant to me and many others.

If you have political leanings towards the IRA and anything similar...I have no problem with that at all...I even agree with most of it
But it does not belong in a football ground...it is a "sporting arena"
As some have said it can only damage our club having songs sung that glorify the IRA
In your own time do as you please but at CP...please leave it out!

Let's ditch all the IRA crap and move on. If people in NI are moving on why can't a section of our support ?

It is quite naive of you to think that only Huns are offended by IRA chants. If our club (and people see our fans as our club) were seen as heavily supporting & promoting a terrorist organisation then a lot of people (sensible people) would be "scared off" - players, supporters, sponsors etc.

As the club social mission statement reads we have no political agenda (and should not have IMO.)

    Well said mate.:50:

lets ask ourselves this simple question. why do we support celtic? I do because my dad did and he did because his dad did and he did because of what celtic represented- a symbol of hope amid oppression. suppose the southern us blacks had started a us football team in th 20s, and they Became a big success winning the biggest us football tournament possible, and they sang the songs their fathers sang in the cotton fields and they were great songs. should they stop? for anyone? the fact is, the sensible britts are embarrased by their own history, just as the sensible americans are embarrased by their treatment of the blacks.what should happen, and tony blair nearly did it, is that a national apology to the irish should be announced and the songs of their people be welcomed and celebrated in recognition of their remorse.otherwise why have holocaust museums?it will happen, but not if we bend the knee.
