If Maeda is fit I think I’d start him on the right and put Kenny in the middle. Try and proper harass them at the back but also ask Maeda to protect Ralston at RB.

Osmand could be a bit of a wildcard to bring on later on.

Midfield I’m just worried about having legs in there. Engels must start to try and win that battle but important he keeps the head.

Whoever is the RB will need extra help, and Maeda is perfect for shutting down an entire side of the pitch.

I take it fans have got the battle fever on as I was just saying yesterday that it was good that nobody was coming on here with mad mental score predictions and that fans were being more realistic etc, and here we are, just 24hrs later with the mad mental scorelines. :56::56::57:

I get that, but for me I think we are going to be playing more direct with lots of crosses getting fired into the box, which would suggest Kenny being the better option to start with. Then bring Maeda on when they are tired to run at them.

Our downfall in recent derbies has been:

    - Playing short passes in defence and midfield which has invited them onto us. Appreciate that’s our style but Rangers have struggled for years with teams who go direct and put balls in behind / down the channels, why Rodgers never tried to take advantage of that I’ll never know.

    - Losing possession in the middle of the pitch far too easily. Hatate the main culprit and really hope he’s on the bench as he was midweek.

    - Lack of aggression and losing out on the majority of 2nd balls

    - McGregor playing as a lone CDM and therefore marked out of the game with ease.

I think some people have got carried away after 1 good result and performance against Falkirk. However, we definitely seemed to go more direct with the ball and weren’t as pedestrian with possession.

Engels was deeper and closer to McGregor which allowed Nygren to push on as a second striker. Nygren is decent aerially so I’d like to see us utilise that today. Kenny or Maeda running off him.

Play them at their game - direct balls, aggressive in 1v1s, clear your lines under pressure - until we get a foothold and then we can try ball more once the game settles down. No need to take chances early doors.
