No chance what? The comment was accurate. I think he backtracked on it a bit when he realised he had to get a tune out of the Honda Civic but he’s gone now anyway. The comment was accurate. Last February we were able to take a side like Bayern Munich to the brink of extra time in a Champions League knockout tie. As Celtic Underground outlined we have sold 100 goals out of that team and replaced it with 28. We gutted the team of goals and momentum. We had a nice machine that needed new parts and needed some good parts replaced as well as obsolete parts removed to keep it humming along and moving forward. The board stopped working with the machine, why? because the manager was most likely leaving at the end of the season? So what we still had to prepare to put a team in the Champions League.

Fookin Sack the board is the only answer to this mess, then after putting some remotely ambitious and professional people in charge at board level Celtic might find ways of going forward again.

    Good post overall.

Folk forget the season after seville MON wanted to strengthen and energise the squad. I'm sure we spe t a grand total of 300k. Even in 2003 that was hee haw.

I'm pretty sure he wasn't chuffed either. This has been going on for decades now.

We never act from a position of strength. Desmonds statement again shows the boards distain for the fanbase imo. Never mind Rodgers for a minute. They are again taking no responsibility for anything that has happened.

Rodgers didn't sell Kuhn and not replace him. Same with Kyogo. Rodgers didn't allow deals to go into the last week of the window and therefore have to pay over the odds on players that evidently we could have gotten for cheaper. Rodgers didnt negotiate with Go Ahead * Eagles so badly that their CEO laughed at the club pubicly and had it splashed all over europe. I could go on but i can't be arsed in all honesty.

He needed to go but for me it doesn't change much. In fact I think things could get worse before they get better. We need to get these guys out or at least form some sort of fan influence in the boardroom

    Agreed.

It's obvious the rest of the board are somewhat scared or intimidated by him? It has to be the case. Why does he hold so much sway otherwise? Were they hand picked by him to invest over the years?

As @Sween mentioned in another thread from a corporate governance perspective he's surely in serious bother.

He has so much sway because we don’t operate the way a corporate PLC should.

Why is Rod Stewart exchanging messages?

Not sure why the press are reporting Brendan Rodgers. It was Rod Stewart

The DR reporting that Rodgers will be at the game on Sunday- absolute bullshit, it’s Rod Stewart he was talking about

Brazil: "I spoke with Rodgers. He's not happy. Oh, he's not happy. He's away to Rio (for a holiday)."

McCoist: “So, he is. I messaged him and he sent me a message back. I was trying to get him on to see what he was thinking. And he said, ‘I am in Brazil. Not the fella, the country.’ He said, ‘I will speak to you when I get back. I am going on Sunday.’

, I sent him a message, ‘That’s great. Glad things are going well. Stay safe. PS, I hope you get pumped on Sunday.’ I said, so, he seems in good form.”

Brazil: “I said a few weeks ago. I know Rangers have got massive problems. There is something wrong with Celtic. You can just tell by the body language, with the players, Brendan and the fans. I didn’t know the board were fighting with Brendan. That I wasn’t aware of, but there’s something not right here. Definitely something is not right.

From what I hear, he is heading to Saudi. That’s the rumour. There are so many rumours flying about. But I have been told that’s where he is going.”

I actually love Ange and think he is uniquely suited to Celtic with his style and passion. Unfortunately I doubt he'll ever come back.
I may have posted that with a bit of hurt for him * off.
It is however up for debate on who is the better manager and I think most people's honest opinions would have Rodgers ahead of him.
Big Ange's just been sacked in 40 days. I don't envisage that ever happening to Rodgers.

If he goes to Saudi then hes a rat * who was actively trying to get sacked while having an excuse of not being backed.

There’s no way Rodgers is sending text messages to the likes of Brazil and McCoist about this.

That last bit especially how often have we been there and know a bit of strengthening here and there and we could compete and beat top teams now and again and replicate big teams from smaller leagues like your Porto's benfica's Ajax Bruges shachtar donetsk fukn Bodo Glimt in progressing further in European tournaments but the board deliberately kill aspirational and attainable in our budget progression and dampen the fans and the clubs spirit, as if progressing automatically means we will spend all the money and kill ourselves

The analogy of the Honda Civic engine was accurate. The * morons of the board decided to fit a car with the potential and opportunity to drive in Champions League class with a Honda Civic engine. Until Lawwell and co. and their nonsense is gone we have no right to be in a European class competition. Lawwell and his Honda Civic mentality need to * off out of the way and let some serious people take over and Desmond needs to stick to writing strongly worded emails of complaint to fookin golf clubs.

Why specifically if he goes there?

He's resigned and doesn't have a job. He's allowed to take another one. How does that make him a rat?

I agree that Saudi in particular makes no difference, but the point clearly is that if he finds another job right away it looks alarmingly like he's been working his ticket for the past few months, which wouldn't be out of character, let's be honest.

My feelings on the timing of it are mixed; I admire him for doing it on the one hand, as it needed to be done in the bigger scope of our season. On the other hand, Brendan looks out for himself first and foremost, and I can't help but feel he jumped ship before the semi as he knew how it would look if he lost it. He'll be hoping to move into another job, and if he gets the sack here that becomes a much harder sell. Leaving now allows himself to spin the narrative (not an entirely untrue narrative of course) that he was the victim of a stingy board and not supported as he should have been.
