    Makes you wonder?

Was he asked to be the interm and refused?

As much as I wouldn't want him anywhere near managing us I think we owe the guy a thank you and goodluck acknowledgement.

    A wee bit shady imho

He deserves much more respect than he ever received from us.

A loyal servant, a great coach by all accounts. Good luck to him. Genuinely hope he's a success elsewhere..

100% he was asked, he’d be onto a hiding for nothing though. Similar to Covid season there’s * all he can do but keep the seat warm.

Why has he and other coaches resigned - so should we assume they also have beef with Desmond or were they fired?

I think a refresh would be good thing tbh

I gave him a lot of stick and had some arguments on here, but even before now I think I've admitted I've changed my view on him.

Especially now he has walked, I can see I was wrong about him. Welcome back any time in my opinion - though obviously not as manager until it's earned. A good Celtic man.

Several players, past and present, have made a point of praising him specifically for his coaching abilities and all seemingly unprompted. While I think we’ve generally needed to get away from this largely inherited backroom staff, and I’d be lying if I was to say that I haven’t been concerned that the board might try and make him the permanent manager at various points, he’s clearly not some diddy who’s held his various roles entirely without merit.

While some people clearly believe that’s he stuck around for so long because it’s a cushy gig, and maybe there is some element of that, given that we know that he’s had opportunities both as a manager and as an assistant elsewhere (for EPL clubs at that), he obviously has a loyalty to the club beyond his pay packet.

We know that’s he been fancied by a few Scottish clubs for managerial roles in the past and there’s probably going to be some potential opportunities on that front soon enough. While it’s maybe not the way he’d have wanted things to play out, this might prove to be the push he needed to kickstart the next step in his career.

I’ve had my criticisms, many of which were probably uniformed and unfair, but he’s been a loyal servant and apparently a positive influence during a period of almost unparalleled success for the club. Good luck to him wherever he goes.

I think he just find it as a good time to become a manager.

He most certainly was not the defensive coach. He was the assistant coach and an excellent coach at that as well as being a genuine and class act as a person.

It absolutely tells you how bad the board and Desmond are when Kennedy of 27 years at Celtic walks.

Wish Kennedy nothing but the best. A class act as a person off the field. Celtic to his very core and an excellent coach who contributed hugely to an incredible run of success this past decade.

    John Kennedy's departure
Kennedy has been at Celtic for decades as a youth player, player and coach. He is one of the confirmed departures after Brendan Rodgers' exit.

O'Neill said, "John was just a young kid coming into the team when was manager. He played Rangers and Barcelona before he got that bad injury playing for Scotland.

"He's been part of Celtic for a considerable time and I wish him well. Those decisions were made before I came in."

Whats the most terrible thing about Kennedy's departure is that he is exactly the type of class act as a person as well as genuinely being Celtic to the core that should be leading our club on the board or as an owner yet he is now gone as well. Of course I mean that in the sense of we need people who are like him leading our club not literally that Kennedy should be on the clubs board.

John, go just give us the low down on what's happened really. We get it, you was a good guy. Now spill it.
