It's not that I think they will go cheap, it's not about money. 2 reasons the next manager will be a downgrade on Rodgers:

    1) They don't have the imagination to find anyone of that quality. They always do the same things. Rodgers and Strachan were Celtic fans, Ronny originally came for the Assistant Manager job and we offered him the big job. Lenny and Mowbray were former Celtic players and they lucked into Ange via the City Group and only after exhausting other options and twice they went back and rehired former managers. If they try to rehire Ange, he'll tell them where to go. Celtic fans who are also top managers? That's also a shortlist of 1 and Moyes won't leave Everton. Shaun Maloney ticks two of those boxes: he's a former player who has come for the assistant's job.

    2) It's not about money; it's about control. That's why we got Ronny and Lenny (twice). It's why they wouldn't even want to find another manager of Rodgers' calibre even if they could (and they can't- see above), let alone someone better than Rodgers. It would mean relinquishing control again. Klopp could personally show up at Celtic Park and offer to work for free and they would try their best to turn him down.

The only way he gets it permanently is if we immediately come together, start playing well and knock out a run of results... And, in all fairness, if he did that he'd deserve to be in the running for the position...

Pretty sure they'll be looking at a full-time appointment for the January window though, unless they intend to really change things up holistically and it takes until the summer, which as grim as it'd be this season, may actually be for the best over the grander scheme of things

Nope; but I can still confidently predict that neither of us will win it. :56:

The more I think about it, the more I think @JamesM09 is right and that this is about getting Maloney in that assistant's role so that he can be imposed on the new manager.

    Some of the positives..

Rodgers probably lost a good chunk of the dressing room by calling them out several times. A new start for a lot of them..

The timing works in several ways, the signings in January will be the new manager's and not Rodgers' who was definitely departing at the end of the season, in reality probably before as it was debatable if he could turn things around.

The season is very much salvageable..

We may see a system that actually suits the players and be less predictable.

Negatives, in a nutshell there can't be too many positives without structural and personnel change at Board level.. and there was no whiff of that at all in DDs, character assassination..

Martin is literally to appease the fans in their heads. Maloney is the defacto Celtic manager this morning and will be going forward anyone who thinks otherwise is sleeping it’s been the plan all along!!! The board don’t give a * about anything other than themselves they know there is waiting lists for season books and no matter what a section of us do there will be the * blinded by the keep the faith and faithful through and through patter.

get them all to * should have been riots down at Celtic park this morning drove past no * there

In these cases where Desmond has been embarrassed, I suspect he'll deliver a OK appointment to save face.

Appointing Maloney as full time manager would cause a meltdown.

Wouldn't shock me if there was an initial jolt in performances with MON and Maloney at the dugout.

Maybe look to set up towards the strengths of the players rather than the managers own outdated ideal.

Grind out some turgid results but nonetheless win games.

Maloney is definitely heading this and MON will be a an old head and sounding board perhaps there trying to gee up players literally just for the Rangers game whilst Maloney tries to set up in a more modern style

What a 24hrs being a Celtic fan! MON i absolutely love, stood at the steps of Parkhead when he arrived, he absolutely changed our club! However its a quarter of a century ago…

Hope he can steady the ships, get the players some confidence back till a new manager arrives. Which I certainly hope is not Shaun…

Agree with everything here. The timing of it actually suits us - the last thing we needed was Rodgers carrying us through January with a chip on his shoulder, trying to work his agenda against the board, and vice versa. I think the change in system and management will see some positive results. Enough to get us through the semi and stay in the European fight? Not sure, but we'll see.

Key thing is now is making the right permanent appointment and making it quickly. No laughing in the back...

Interesting to see he talked yesterday about our lack of physicality. Which most people would agree is accurate.

Interesting to see how he will address that in his lineup over next couple of games.
