From any level in football. From the EPL, right through to the bottom tier of your local * team (s). And when I say best, I don't mean the most satisfying performance ever - I mean a performance that made you in awe because of the technical ability of the team, the shape, the discipline, the passing, the attitude, and so on.

For me personally, I would go with Barcelona's 1-3 victory over Manchester United in the UCL final at Wembley back in May 2011. Total domination from start to finish; a masterclass in football. Even Alex Ferguson, at the end of the game, could only shake his head sarcastically and then shake Pep's hand solemly ... for he knew they'd been utterly outclassed and outplayed.

Is that actually your opinion or did you copy it from Reddit?

There are obviously better, but for me it is Sweden 5 Bulgaria 0 in the 2003 Euros. Larsson was on fire and all the goals was just football *.

Defensively best performance i have ever seen and that includes all games i have ever watched is when we beat Barcelona in 2012. The game sent shockwaves all through the world.

If I may be so bold and mention two...........

    Leeds United v Southampton 1972 (7-0)
My Dad (RIP) was a die-hard Leeds United fan who took me to Hampden in 1970 to watch the European Cup semi-final against Celtic.
Took me out of school and all that
I saw Jimmy Johnstone and the rest as they say is history.
This was his attempt to try and sway me to support Leeds United.
    Johnny Giles in his pomp.

    Celtic v PSG 2017 (1-7)
That midfield of Varrati, Rabiot and Motta was sensational.
The way they played out of trouble in the corner (13 minutes in), having being pressed by Celtic, was imperious.
I gave them a round of applause.
Cavani's header at the end was an amazing feat of gymnastics to get in the net from that angle.
The best footballing side I ever saw in the flesh.

In all of my 62 years on this earth, up until now, those are the best games I have witnessed being in the stands.

If it was TV ONLY, I would say:

    Barcelona v Real Madrid 2016 (5-0)
Mourhino's team totally overran by Guardiola's imperious side.
Watched it in a bar in London with lots of Los Blancos fans, who even clapped at the end.
My Dad was a huge Madrid fan and he would have been blown away by the football played that night.
    Football from the Gods........................

That game sprung to mind right away.
That was an amazing team performance against a very good Italian team.

Their WC '82 team wasn't too shabby either. Zico, Socrates and Falcão spring to mind. Unfortunately, they decided to play one of their best ever matches against us! For me, that performance alone was where the term 'sexy football' originated from; so much flair and confidence (ironically, it was this overconfidence that cost them from actually winning the cup itself that year).

Immediately thought of Barca in the CL final, but I have to go for this match. That Barca team is by far the best ever, headed up by the greatest to ever kick a baw.

The AC Milan team with the Dutch boys was possibly the best club side I've ever seen.

I’ve got a book about that team I bought while high on stuff and smoking one morning.

I mistakenly thought it was written by someone calling themselves ‘Stuart Horseface’ and that it was just Stuart Cosgrove taking the *…couldn’t stop laughing.I’d been out all night and ended up in Waterstones was * myself as I read back page and took it down to counter…remember a security guard followed me out of the centre…was a * state.

Decent book though just a love note of sorts, but the passion oozes..fun football book.

World Cups still mean something but don’t like the new format as much with a lot more teams. Also prefer it to take place in one country.

Germany putting 7 past Brazil as well

For us? Winning the league at Love Street must be up there, with the team goals in that game.

Peak Messi Barca is the correct answer but PSG in last seasons Champions League was something else as well.

    Haha! Cool story, bud.

I don't like the title of the book, though - 'The Glorious Failure'; it's just an insipid, tired and cliched oxymoron sans creativity & intellectual depth. Another figure of speech that grates on my * is the paradox. Much like its uglier younger brother the oxymoron, it allows pseudo-intellectuals (and other spurious, would-be literary critic chancers) to discuss its meaning as if it's profound and important, when, in actual fact, it's completely unimportant and doesn't solve or resolve anything pertaining to humanity or the material world. Discussing and dissecting the paradox is largely a waste of time, and merely satiates, for a very brief amount of time, the intellectual needs and curiosity of philosophers and literary scholars alike.

Still, I'm sure it was a good wee read at the time.

Agreed. They look like surefire winners of it this season. They're on another level from everyone else at the moment, imo.
