I’m happy to let the next manager work with him to be honest.

Agreed, I think across the board of the squad, with the overall downturn in form of everyone.

I would at least out of curiosity see what 6 months under new coaching and management could do for a lot of the players where atleast domestically, the coaching is around a far more risk taking attacking style that finds the balance between the gung ho, pure instinct style of Ange's demands, and the possession style of Rodgers.

Something I feel Engels and so many could benefit from

Nobody would sign him anyway so, he’ll be here for the foreseeable future.

I was really hoping when raskin took his place in the Belgium squad that arne would knuckle down and really kick on , but he went the other way instead. Think there's definitely a player there but just doesn't seem to fit our system at the moment.

He’s really confusing , kinda think he has something but not seen much evidence. Suppose he’s a bit like * , some people believe but no one has seen it.

£2m/year because hes an "elite" level coach at developing players yet here we have a 21 year old with bags of potential who's regressed so much hes now a sub.

Same with his £6m centre back and lets not mention the £9m striker he pushed so hard for.

I can appreciate that he might not fit into whatever system BR has us playing to a certain extent however, surely we would still see some signs of a good player in him and not just someone who can "take a good corner". There are loads of players who have been played out of position over the years and the majority have coped.

Better first touch and a bit of composure - he'd be top drawer.
Big gaps to fill, but at 21, with the right coaching....

Doesn’t even take a good corner.
Genuinely don’t know how he’s regressed so much. Looked promising season 1 but then tailed off towards the end and now looks like a youth player

Who’s the right coach if our manager who’s famed for his ability to improve players isn’t doing so?

I think he'd make a good old school RM, Alan Thompson style. Change our system to a diamond. Never happening tho.

I’m not sure what is best attributes are. Usually you see a player and they’ve got traits, or characteristics that stick out. He just seems so generic and unimpressive.

3421 and play him right hand side of the 4. Good, strong powerful runner. He'd get up and down that side all game and would get more time and space on the ball to get crosses into box or play balls over the top

I don't think Engels is ever going to make it with us. The management have tried him in every position in the team and none of them are working out for him.You just get the distinct impression with him, he just does not possess the attributes to be a successful football player with Celtic. We can't keep saying he is young and still developing, other Celtic players have made the grade at Parkhead younger than Engels, and plenty elsewhere at other clubs, it's the classic excuse offered by many, for simply a player that does not fit our system, or the inflated price tag gives the player a footballing aura he really does not deserve, either on merit or effort.

I would much have preferred Engels out the door long before Idah.

I keep hearing he's only 21 but there's loads of young players up and down the country showing more promise. He only showed some glimpses against the smaller teams and usually when we were coasting but was totally anonymous against the bigger teams. You just have to look at the young 17yr old Ajax player that totally dominated the midfield in our friendly to see that age has no barrier when it comes to skill

I am judging players on a season-to-season basis, so i will give him a bunch of games before making my mind up on him. At the start of the season Iniesta would probably underperform in this team.

Took Rogic 3 years to be good enough to hold down a position in the team. Granted he didn't cost a fortune but patience and development turned him into a key player who at his best was unplayable. I've seen Engels have awful games and seen him have good games where afterward people are on here and elsewhere still on his back. He's getting the Scales/Taylor treatment because of what he cost.
