It is a very simple concept, and one that you’ve somehow got wrong :giggle1: It’s almost as bad as the flat earth *.

The definition is “a view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge." It doesn’t matter if it’s factual.

Ironically your opinion that opinions can't contradict facts is the perfect example - it's demonstrably wrong, yet it's still your opinion.

"An opinion is a personal belief, judgment, or way of thinking about something that is not necessarily proven or based on absolute facts, but rather on a thought, feeling, or interpretation. It represents what someone thinks or believes, as opposed to a fact, which is a verifiable truth. Opinions can be about individuals, events, or issues, and a group of people can hold a collective opinion on a matter."

Simple. You used a verifiable truth and a non verifiable truth in your examples.

There are both truths and falsehoods in many things depending on how you look at them and from which point of view. Everything is a concept in theory and a theory in concept. See an opinion as a prototype and things make alot more sense. We might not conclude the same things but the thought process is whats important.

But you just destroyed your own argument :giggle1:

It says opinions are 'not necessarily based on absolute facts' - which means they CAN contradict facts.

We really shouldn’t be arguing about this :giggle1:

There is no such thing as contradicting a fact. A fact cannot be contradicted, because if it could then it wouldn't be a fact would it? I agree we shouldn't be arguing about it it's a pile of nonsense that stemmed from Callum McGregor saying my opinion on us being the dominant team was wrong and me saying you can't have a wrong opinion on a subjective football match. It was never meant to be this deep but here we are.

But an incorrect opinion obviously contradicts facts. A fact itself cannot be contradicted, but people's opinions absolutely can contradict facts - that's literally what makes them wrong opinions.

    Have a good evening, I’m out :giggle1:

If your opinion involves contradicting a fact, then it becomes invalid and therefore is not an opinion. Google it yourself:

"No, an opinion cannot contradict a fact, because facts are verifiable and objective, while opinions are subjective beliefs or judgments. A statement that appears to contradict a fact is not an opinion, but rather a misstatement of fact or a flawed claim"

Good evening to you too :56:

Already said multiple times over we dominated the ball and passing stats but offered little to no goal threat. It really is a dull affair going round in circles. We'll agree to disagree on it. Its really not a hugely controversial take either way in the grand scheme of things. We're out the Champs League, we're both raging about it and that transfer window would send even the calmest fan into a meltdown. And I've been in a foul mood because of it and I admit I've lashed out on here a few times at people as this is one of the only places I have to vent about Celtic related matters.

There's no knots to be tied here, I've consistently said the same thing since the beginning. Those stats make for grim reading. If their keeper has only made 3 saves in 210 minutes of football I dont know how we can defend that. Especially given their first choice keeper went off injured and they were playing an inexperienced 2nd choice keeper in the 2nd leg. It doesn't really paint a dominating picture to me, outside of the aforementioned possession and passing, which means * all when its your backline doing the bulk of it.

I enjoy a debate too, but this has dragged on past the point of being enjoyable and I'm sure the other users on here are sick of reading the now pointless back and forth. We do not need to agree on it.

You need to stay on your toes on here, * can go down at any minute. If you can't have a good laugh while talking * with mostly like-minded fellows the world would be a grim place. This debate for me has only been topped by Inheanacho's real age the other day, that really tickled me.
