Its probably better that they released the statement they did from a support perspective. It will keep pretty much everyone united in their dissatisfaction. And it also gives pretty clear evidence that theres no intention of the board changing its approach. They dont even really recognise that the Summer was inadequate.

    So there you have it.

If they were more accomplished they would have released an apology and offered a change of policy. Recognising that the Summer was a watershed moment for underscoring a need to change how the club operates. This would possibly have divided the support more and fractured how it reacts.

They have made it clear now that we cant expect anything better under their stewardship though - and thats going to be unacceptable to everyone.

It's actually concerning to me that someone who actually thought that statement would help matters is in charge of the finances and running of the club.. * *

If anything at least it's bonded the support even more. Never seen the support so united in the absolute need for these spoofers to be chased, not even during the covid season..

Had a quick peek on social media and the other dute its pretty unanimous.. They need chased pronto..

Why do they think we expect them to "throw money"?

I'd like them to explain why with £100m in the bank we are bidding 1.5m for a player valued at 5m, only to then end up overpaying for a less experienced player on the final day of the window.

    Great business. * insufferable *. So angry:giggle1:

Mate that entire statement is them essentially showing us they don't respect our views at all.

This is what I'm saying. I get people can dislike Rodgers still, fine, but I believe he has been fighting our corner behind the scenes with these *. And cares to some degree at least.

This lot DO NOT care about the celtic support. They just want us to shut up and pay the money that we all work hard for, whilst Nicholson collected 900k for doing hee haw.

It's an absolute disgrace. If this was Brazil or Argentina they'd be frog marched out the boardroom and thrown in a cell at gun point.

Incredibly dismissive statement which is, ultimately, very condescending.

    A few points:

Origination and Execution of Deals - I don’t think they quite understand how imperative this is. It sounds they think it is somewhat secondary according to the statement - we tried but it is ok. It really isn’t. In a deal environment, you need to do deals. This is the case for anyone who works in this environment whether in football or in other professions. Hence why I have said we need a deal guy in the hot seat (banker, private equity, real estate etc). Accountants and lawyers do not originate or execute the deal (a lawyer may help with structuring).

Financials and Bank Facilities - people think that debt is a bad word. It actually isn’t and many of the most successful companies in the world run with what is called “leverage”. Most companies have what is called a Revolving Credit Facility - think of it as a committed overdraft which allows you to draw down and pay back periodically. This helps many companies with seasonality flows etc. Many football clubs have them - it would in principal allow us to draw down X amount to buy Y player and then we can then pay back when we sell Z player.

Sales - they are not selling the club to prospective players well enough. This may also be factored in to how many stakeholders think we are very hard to do business with. They don’t appear to understand the concept of first mover advantage when it comes to transfers - it should be our raison d’etre to get both economic value and on the pitch value by getting players in early. Why on earth are we waiting until the 11th hour on 31st attempting to buy overvalued players as we are desperate? It is genuinely beggars belief. They are not selling the club to prospective players - whether that be by saying we are a CL team (yes we are until the point in which we are knocked out! Genuinely no player is looking and saying I’m not signing for Celtic as they’ve got a tricky tie against Kairat Almaty!). There are plenty of levers you can pull to get a player who may be on the fence - salary and signing on fee is another one. This is a job market like any other - money can always talk. No sales ability exists but that doesn’t surprise me from career lawyers and accountants.

Financial Fair Play - where do you even start with that ludicrous attempt of an excuse? We’re nowhere close to breaching any FFP rules. In fact, our revenue is relatively close to many mid-tier EPL clubs who turn over c£200m. We are projected to turn over c£150m this FY for reference.

Football Inflation - following from the above points, a imperative point which is overlooked is that in the year 2000 we were spending £6-7m on players like Lennon, Hartson and Sutton & of course paying notable wages to the likes of Larsson, Petrov etc. How do we square off that our revenue back then was notably less and we weren’t selling players for £15m, 20m, 25m every season? We have not kept up with football inflation and our relative purchasing power has been eroded significantly.

A few things that bug me off the top of my head. Very patronising statement from the club - they think we are all daft.

They seem to be forgetting that Lawwell sat in front of a camera 18 months ago and apologised for a transfer window...

To then come out with this, is an astounding level of arrogance. As this isn't the first time.

They will do anything that they can to deflect the attention away from themselves for their failings similar to their predecessors Kelly's and White's in order to maintain self preservation.

The statement itself comes across as patronising and condescending which has only further angered an already angry fan base.

Its the age old strawman - a hypothetical celtic mob demanding that the board throw money about to win the champions league and risk the existence of celtic. Its an invention to make an easy argument against something noone is actually arguing for.

    They have genuinely learned nothing

There’s so many contradictions within that statement it’s almost laughable … for starters, did our manager and captain get caught up in the “social media transfer hysteria” too then? Because they sure as * were begging for you useless Tory * to help them out with some players not too long ago.

I think they’re in for a very uncomfortable time at Celtic park for the foreseeable … this is probably the most unity and anger I’ve seen with the support so far.

I would die a happy man if I seen thousands firing sausage rolls and other projectiles at them every home game :56:

Notice how they've delayed releasing the package.

They don't actually believe the statement will help matters. They're angered by the fan statements and so they're telling us to mind our own business. They know we won't like it and they don't care. As long as Desmond is happy, the board are untouchable and so they have no qualms about telling us all to get to *.
