Was obvious he was wanting to leave . If he wanted to stay , he would have signed the new contract that’s been on the table for months . Will probably be sold in January, no faith at all the club can properly replace him .
If any player wants to go , is unhappy etc just sell them .

So let me get this right. We were close to losing our 3 best/main strikers in the last 2 windows and had no one coming in, is that right?

Along with our best right winger who hasn't been replaced..

    Jeez..

That dressing room must be a riot..

I honestly believe a DoF wouldn't solve our issues, they run deeper.

This Board would likely go for WGS or MON as an option.

I literally can't see much changing under this boards stewardship.

You can see why McGregor has had to come out and comment, must be a nightmare for him just now.

Genuinely believe that a figurehead at the centre of the footballing department who is experienced in the role changes the way we operate as a club when it comes to recruitment.

Aye he'll have known and been like what the * happening here..

I suspect Maeda would've been sold if Dolberg came in and massively makes sense we went left wing happy with Tounekti and Balikwisha as well as * Yang about..

    Disgusting..

To sit on our * all summer would have been bad even with a settled squad. But it looks clear now the squad needed major surgery which we did nothing about and are left with a toxic mess.

Team needed a rebuild and significant investment. Board chose to wait until deadline day to address it.

No strategy or planning at all - just a wait and see and make it up as you go along approach.

Aye, we 100% need a DoF..

To be given full autonomy to look at everything in the footballing structure, from recruitment to U16s..

Employing a DoF who has been successful in that role for another regularly competing CL Club.

That's the issue, we couldn't trust this board to get such an important appointment correct and give them the freedom to implement whats required.

Rumour I heard (same person said that he was going to a lower half EPL side and everything was all in place) was that we basically panicked and had to halt Maeda and Yang's moves and Inamura's loan as we had messed up so much.

I agree. A DoF is needed, but under this board they are nothing but a puppet.

Well that explains the drop off on form, great no striker other than squad fillers and now lightning legs wants away.

I think that people like Desmond and Lawwell, guys who have been involved in football for 30 years, still want to run the club the way it was run 30 years ago.

When Desmond comes out a couple of years ago and says that the manager is the front of the footballing operations and the board try and see to the managers demands, I don't think he's lying there. I think he believes that is the best way to run a football club. It's 30 years down the line now and we all know that it isn't the way to run a club.

A 'manager' really should be a thing of the past. People were discussing 'club signings' earlier on this week when it came to the Japanese lads we brought in this summer, and there seemed to be a debate about whether or not these players were being caught in a political game between Rodgers and The board. I don't really want to get into that argument but the extension of that topic is really interesting. I've always believed that, while a coach should be able to bring in a certain player he likes or worked with previously and it falls into a budget the footballing department can make, I think far more clubs nowadays make 'club signings' in that the DOF works with the Scouts/Chief Scout to sign the sort of players a coach has requested. That's the way it should be for me. That's one of the reasons why I don't think Rodgers is the long term answer to coaching/managing our football team. I do think he has too big of an ego and he probably wants to have that overall control. I know he says differently but I'm now at the stage where I would like to see the club modernise the footballing structure and to bring in a young, proactive coach who plays good football and wants to build something here. By extension, a Sporting Director then needs to bring in some of the very best scouts and talent spotters from across the world.

What I don't understand is why we punt some key players with absolutely no intention of replacing them, then tell other players (sometimes fringe players we all want to see the back of) that they can't leave because we don't have a replacement lined up.

It's obvious that we don't do any scouting whatsoever, our transfer targets are just a list of whatever players have been shopping for moves our way in the last couple of years, and players are kept or sold based on how pushy their agents are.

It's the laziest and most unsustainable method of doing business possible. It's why sometimes we land a few players who work out great, but most of the time we end with with a bunch of duds. And every few years we end up with a team where half of them aren't good enough and the other half don't want to play for us anymore.

We've always blamed 3rd season Rodgers, or Lennon, or covid, or the agents, but it's obvious that it's the laziness and poor organisational skills of the * running our club that are the source of all our problems. Teams like Brugge, or Leipzig, or Atalanta, or Bodø should be an example to us. Instead they keep giving us a showing up.

We need new ownership soon as possible, or this pathetic hun team will end up overtaking us. And that will be as big an embarrassment as I think we've ever possibly suffered.

The guy was our best player last season his value will never be higher. It doesn't make any sense for the club not to have a provisional list of options just on the off chance someone came in (Which was entirely predictable). What do they actually do what does their day to day look like. Never mind an interview with sky they should be having a Q&A with fans asking the difficult questions on specific things
