Europa league squad list

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by Notorious, Sep 3, 2025.

Mostly only for goalkeepers I think, it has to be a serious injury/illness knocking a player out long term, and our medical staff don't just get to declare it has to be confirmed by a UEFA medical as well, it's not very common.

Aye was curious cause looking at the Uefa homegrown rules-

“UEFA defines locally-trained or 'homegrown' players as those who, regardless of their nationality, have been trained by their club or by another club in the same national association for at least three years between the ages of 15 and 21”.

Loans only count if it’s same association which could come under association trained. So if we had put him on loan to other SPFL teams instead of Shamrock he could of counted towards our homegrown quota. Really something we should plan ahead with for Europe.

  2. I actually never knew that it went all the way up to 21. Thought it was like 18. And also never knew the same domestic association thing. Makes it even worse we don’t sign up and coming foreign youngsters and loan them within the league to get that. “Forward thinking” and this club eh, would never work

    Just looking at the squad..

Think it's terrible for Shin, but who would miss out instead of him?

Aye exactly what we should be doing, mentioned it in the Board thread that the lack of investment into the 16-18year old category for Scottish players and abroad is shocking plus constantly losing youngsters to teams down South.

Even if they spent a lot of money doing that people would be able to see what they are trying to do. Instead our B team is run on bare bones along with main squad, backroom team etc. Still mind when Rodgers left first time Lawwell gutted the sports science, scouting, medical etc.

I would say Yang, we’ve got Balikiwish, Tounetki, Forrest, Maeda and Nygren can all play on the wings. Plus Yang is hopeless on the right anyway.

Just seen as well we can’t make any changes until after the league phase, if we make the next round we can make 3 changes which would likely be Jota in for a start.

An injury to Maeda and we’re starting Iheanacho or Kenny up front against * Roma…

  8. * despicable shin being left out. No * excuse brendan. Wasting this players career here

  9. From off the cuff. Engels teirney yang scales
He wouldn't be any worse in their positions than they are

  10. It's a good point bcoz he's been here 3 full seasons so technically could be classed as homegrown had we not sent him to Shamrock rovers.

Again it shows the lack of strategic, forward planning across almost every department of the club. A loan to an Spfl team instead would have allowed him to qualify as a homegrown player.

Fully agree and said the same above, just a * state from top to bottom, we’ve never been proactive with our youth set up, just get lucky now and then.

  12. Starting Shin would make no odds compared to having to start Kenny though in my opinion. If anything, Kenny is a safer bet. He has played in European competition and scored goals in it.

Not really a good argument when between all 4 of our strikers, Johnny Kenny is the only one to score a goal. And he's only scored twice.

  14. why the * is yang on that list

  15. Disappointing that Rodgers would be shallow enough to * about with a young boy’s career just to make a point to the board.

Shin deserves to be in there more than some.
