I’ve not been convinced by him but leaving him out the Europa league squad seems like madness. I’m guessing Maeda will primarily play through the middle now.

 

Wouldn't be shocked if he goes out on loan in January.

 

I mean only 6 weeks ago before any games we were all saying he's the best striker and should stay in the middle. In europe it does make sense, he causes the most hassle for teams.

 

People are going completely overboard with Yamada here.

He's appeared 4 times. Didn't do a whole pile v Falkirk or Aberdeen. Looked bright v Livi when he started but was replaced by Kenny who scored and had a decent cameo v Rangers where he won a few frees. That's the reality.

It's also reality that Yamada has now gone about 25 games since he found the back of the net for his old side, Japan and Celtic.

He's only in the door, he will get more chances between now and January, if he takes them Rodgers won't ignore him but it will be up to Yamada.

The bottom line is Rodgers clearly doesn't fancy him right now but that doesn't mean he's trying to spike his career because of some dispute with the board.

I was surprised by the decision too as he was ahead of Kenny in the squad against Rangers so I think it's clear himself and Kenny are battling it out for that 3rd striker role and looks like Rodgers feels Kenny has attributes he likes more or someone he sees with much more potential.

I find it odd that people were completely writing Johnny Kenny off as rubbish having seen him play 166 minutes of competitive football and now we have people crying because Yamada didn't make our Europa League squad.

None of our striking options are convincing

Maeda is low in confidence and out of form
Yamada and Kenny have not got many minutes and complete unknowns really
Iheanacho has been out of form for years and looks unfit but was a very good striker when he played under Rodgers

That jersey is up for grabs and it's the guy who is going to put the ball in the net when the chances present themselves that will get it.

I just hope out wingers and midfield now click as we're not even creating chances now.

 

what a * joke ,rodgers is every bit as bad as all thoes english talksport type fannys .this is almost as ridiculous as bombing hatate out of the team for turnbull .

 

I’m not complaining about it. I still think he’s best through the middle. Just pointing out that’s why he’s probably been left out. It’s obviously between him and Kenny for the third choice role.

 

Looking at the squad I can't see who we could have left out, to fit him in.

Possible Yang or Kenny, but I'm fine with both of them being in.

 

Its annoying because we've had him enough games to play him and find out if he's better than Kenny and he's not played him nearly enough. Frustrating for fans even if in the end it may be the right call.

 

It's just confusing though. @Notorious reckons Kenny loaned out was all but confirmed until we failed to replace Idah. Now a couple days later he's given the nod over Shin.

 

Yang was also off. And in all honesty id play Yamada at RW before Yang who imo is one of the worst wingers at the club in modern history.

 

Bolton had had pushed for Kenny for weeks


Obviously the failure to get another striker in had changed that

 

According to my son who have mates who are Bolton fans, their board got fed up with Celtic and pulled out.

I wouldn't have bombed Yang out like that - he's been in and around the team for a few years and the way that the club treated him so badly over the transfer window by telling him that he's no longer part of the plans then not allowing his transfer to go through at the last minute means the manager has a hurt player to keep motivated. If he leaves him out, and you were Yang, why would you even bother trying after that kind of treatment?

 

Yang, regardless of whether or not we think he's *, he's an asset that can be sold, likely in January and the club would be foolish not to at least try and maximise the potential sale. He's not going to get any worse, certainly in the players eyes. If he manages to grab a few goals/assists in the next few months, maybe we could get that fee of £3m increased. * knows.

Is it right that he's been bombed out for Iheanacho? Well, I think that's a better argument to make and I think Rodgers is wrong to favour that fat pie over Yamada.

 

Yang is erratic but when he is on form. He's a dangerous player. Sadly we've seen more of his worst than his best.
