Plenty of chat in both the board and Rodgers threads. Lots of differing views. This maybe overkill but I’m curious.

No goals, out of the CL, and can hardly muster a shot against a woeful Rangers. The football is dire, and the squad is weak. Players look disillusioned and we’re wanting answers.

To get a better idea of where we stand, here’s a quick poll.

Both can be correct. It's not just one or the other.
The board carry the can for 90% but I'm not having that Rodgers can't possibly be blamed for getting dumped out of the champions league by Kairat Almaty.

    This is where I sit.

The vast majority of my anger is at the board though as I'm sick of this. It's years of this *.

Rodgers will go. Whether its tomorrow or next summer and plenty will be delighted no doubt. But end of the day the snakes in the heated seats will still be there.

I need to stress this sort of poll does absolutely nothing to the overall movement. I get why the thread has been created and I get why people blame both but the way the thread is written up, it's like they're both equally to blame. Not picking at the OP in any way as I understand the reason why we are all having this discussion.

Only one side of this has an excuse for not doing their job adequately. Rodgers has not been backed, he's lost an incredible amount of goals, creation, movement and pace from his attacking options/midfield and none of these guys have been properly replaced.

Yes, if you're looking to divy up the blame then by definition, Rodgers could have and should have gotten us through against Kairat, we all agree with that but the factors we are all talking about when it comes to the board directly impact what a manager does.

Rodgers, Ange, Lennon, Rodgers, Delia, Lennon again... each and every single one of them have been ill prepared. Each and every single one of them have been left in the lurch to navigate these qualifiers. Bitton playing at CB or Lustig filling in there, McGregor playing at LB... it's a consistent theme that comes from the top down, not the bottom up. The difference between all the other managers, who I don't blame either by the way, and now or certainly the last 3/4 years? We have tens of millions of pounds in the bank, doing nothing, while our squad goes stale, becomes greatly imbalanced across the pitch and our club is laughed out of the room by * teams like Go-Ahead Eagles.

Rodgers is not blameless and no one is suggesting he is but this is a systemic issue that has been going on through multiple different managers for nearly 15 years. Ange and Rodgers are the two best managers we have had since Stein but Ange had knowledge of a market that no one else did. Which is why Asia became so important to us very quickly. That quickly changed when other clubs started picking up on it. The only reason the * upstairs sanctioned all these deals was because they were cheap. Bring Ange back and we would have the exact same problems we do now.

This isn't about the manager anymore. It's far bigger.

Why just 'the board'? I'd have had Lawwell, Nicholson and Desmond named, and ask who should take most of the blame?

    The board about 80%.

But BR should still be doing better in a few games with what we have, as poor as it is. I get he must be majorly * off but he still gets paid a handsome wage and needs to keep the team he does have performing.

Kairat was Rodger's Red Imp disaster.

I'm getting Rodger's last season at Leicester vibes off him.

I think he is a dead man walking in the Board eyes.

Board, 100% them. How many times have we seen them * it.

By * this window has been the worst for me.

is it 7 time out of 9 we have failed to qualify for the champions league due to us dragging our heels in the transfer window.

They * the 10 with showers appointment.

Handed Oldco 3 in a row after WGS January transfer window * Hibs about not getting Fletcher in and Willo Flood was signed.

I would see the point if this was a one off or happened twice but let’s be honest it’s happened time and time again the negligence and mismanagement of this club.

    * The Board.

Totally fair points, and I agree with pretty much everything you said. This is a long-term issue that goes way beyond just Rodgers. The stuff you mentioned like Bitton at CB or McGregor at LB are good examples. It’s been happening for years and imo it always comes back to the board.

Just to be clear though, the poll wasn’t meant to say Rodgers is equally to blame. It was more just to get a sense of where people are at with it all. I know some do blame both, so I included that option, but personally I think most of the blame lies upstairs as reflected in my vote.

A lot of nuance to the argument, and I've just gone into it in the BR thread - my frustrations with him DO NOT exclude the board from their failings - and vice versa. It's not one or the other, everyone at the club should be accountable for their work - sadly the manager takes more visible criticism from pundits, fans and journos and the board get away with a lot more as they're shady *.

But I'll vent appropriately at those not doing enough: players, managers or board members.

110% my anger is mainly at the board as well but I just can't wrap my head around the fact that people are completely obsolving any blame from Rodgers as well.
Why did he say the people in the board 'bleed green and white' just comments like that confuse the * out of me. He's obviously not going to come out and slate the club but to make a comment like that is strange.

The players have about 10% blame.

The manager has about 30% blame.

The board has about 60% blame.

Yeah both can take blame, but the vast majority is on the board and if you ask me to pick which one to point the finger at, it's the board.

You simply do not hire a manager like Rodgers and know how stubborn he is on his football philosophy (same goes for Ange here and at Spurs) and then not back him with the type of players he needs in a timely manner.

No one can deny we didn't have the right attacking options in the club for major key games already this season - that's on the board.

In individual games, Rodgers could have done more to get more out of the players he had to pick from, but, back to the first point, he's stubborn on his philosophy (rightly or wrongly) so we can't have it both ways of blaming not signing the players he needs but also blaming him for not changing it, when we know he won't.

Which is a Rodgers issue, so he does shoulder some blame of some aspects.

The biggest thing for me though, in the whole saga, is the constant interviews Rodgers done, stating very very clearly the issues we have, the need for new players to HELP even the current players, the lack of attacking options etc, by he never got anything done before it was far too late and even now looks initially lackluster from the board

They're banking on us seeing out the season through time and simply overall being better than others for the long haul, rather than investing in the squad for the future and for ambition, regardless who they think may be the manager next summer.

Which is another point that keeps getting brought up, not backing rodgers as he's away in 12 months.
Listen to Rodgers comments this summer, he isn't making the signings. Yes in the past he's had his part in it, but on the whole out managers are given players. He had this issue his first stint. Same happened this summer, he's not signing any of these players (last minute striker aside as it seems the board had no option but to beg him to make that contact), so with that said, why didn't the club simply sign the players the club thinks the club needs and have at it? They don't care for the manager really, so why would it stop them investing properly and in a timely manner this summer?

All they've done is * us all off and set the squad back 12 months at least.
New manager next summer(?) is simply gonna come in to a rebuild regardless and a squad no doubt bloated again with duds.

When the club could have signed key players that even the next manager would be fine to work with - because, again, they're not getting many of their own players regardless

If you look at the bigger picture it can only be the board.

We can sack Rodgers and appoint someone else and nothing will change.

We've been put out in the qualifiers numerous times by teams we should be beating under similar circumstances we encountered this season and the one constant through out all the failings isn't the manager.

Similarly with the 'Head of recruitment' I have no doubt Tisdale will be the sacrificial lamb to get the sack and some of our support will point to that as a step in the right direction when in reality he joins a list of Congerton, Hammond and Lawwell Jr before him again the one consistent throughout all these failures in transfer windows isn't the 'Head of recruitment'

It's obviously true that Rodgers isn't completely blameless for the playoff; but I think it's incredibly harsh to give him more than, say 10% of the blame even for that. At the end of the day, he only really got it wrong in a single game of football (the home game against Kairat) and even there, it clearly wasn't entirely his fault. The away game after that long flight, on that pitch and with that squad was a far more difficult game than people are willing to acknowledge and I don't blame Rodgers at all for that.

Anyone blaming him for the toothless displays in the away game and at Ibrox is underestimating what has happened to our front 5.

I think you just need to look at the facts: the one window he was semi-, demi-, hemi-backed (last summer), he delivered. I can only say "semi-backed", because even in that window, we had a negative net spend of about minus £10 million. Every other window, he has been royally shafted.

It's kind of unbelievable that we not only didn't replace Kyogo, we also sold Idah and didn't replace him either. Rodgers has been hung out to dry here. I think this illustrates that we need to look at net spend, because it's about what talent leaves every bit as much as what talent we bring in. I haven't seen any official figures for this summer's net spend; but if I go with @Blochairnbhoy's claim of £-23 million, then our net spend since Rodgers walked in the door has been £-59.97 million.

Minus 60 million pounds. That's our net spend since Rodgers arrived. No Celtic manager has ever been so poorly backed IMHO.

So yes, Rodgers does deserve some criticism for the home game against Kairat; but the blame for the whole situation, no, the blame goes to the board.
