It's the weakest front line I can remember, slowest squad overall for ages, frightening lack of depth and options..

Which is a shame as I feel we have a decent group of players and a number of very good characters, and we’d thrive if we supplemented that with some necessary additions and actually operated like a professional football club.

Don’t know if I’d go as far as weakest squad, but certainly weakest forward and wing depth.

This squad is so bad it rivals Deila's. Not sure which is worse. Probably this one.

 

Don't think it's the weakest squad but the forward line looks a bit on the weak side

 

I always think how disillusioned you’d be as a player in that dressing room.

Toe to toe with Bayern a matter of months ago, yet the people above you can’t be arsed helping you out.

I’m not debating our players’ professionalism, but that would affect anyone.

I’d go as far as to say the most professional, dedicated players in the world would be openly questioning it.

 

I said this earlier but I stand corrected that this one is well worse when someone pointed out Deila’s options.

Kazim Richards would start every week for this team.

 

Motivation and morale would be a bigger concern to me right now than actual quality

Theres maybe 6 or 7 in that squad now I could easily see checking out which is more than enough to totally infect the group.

Missing out on CL football will have been a morale sapper and then its been followed up by a window where the club have actually been embarrassed really on a very public level.

The question really is can anyone else in the SPL actually step up and take advantage of it?

 

So looking at that squad in terms of Europe. We have 28 players.

Donovan is in the B list and we have another 7 home grown players; Doohan, Ralston, Tierney, Murray, McGregor, McCowan and Forrest. So that leaves 20 players and we are only allowed to name 17. So who's your 3 that don't make the list?

I think Jota and Osmand are 2 unlikely to be on it. The other one for me would be Yang, which makes the decision to recall him even worse.

If we complete our panic buy of Iheanacho then it means potentially a 4th payer misses out from that current squad.

 

I think it might be. Here are the other candidates:

2019-20: Not as bad a squad as I remember, but the leading lights were just not performing that well (Edouard, Ajer, Christie, etc.).
2015-16: Boring as * season when we had Ciftci. Lustig probably our best defender. However, still had some decent midfielders and Commons and Griffiths scored a * tonne. Prime Rogic, Forrest, Bitton, Patrick Roberts had a good loan... miles better actually.
2008-09: Strachan's last season. Was not a good squad, but still had Boruc, Broonie, Scott Macdonald, Samaras, McGeady. Similar story for next season under Mowbray. Borderline for me.
1995-96. I think this is right on the line as we were just starting to pick up. Had some good players ageing out like McStay but obviously van Hooijdonk leading the line just takes the * compared to what we have now. Still, it wasn't fantastic.

Beyond that, I think you need to go back to 1993-94 to find a clearly worse squad. That was under Lou Macari. With Jota and AJ back it might not look so bad but it's still fairly pish.

 

The only bright spot is we have Johnson and Jota to come back, but that's not in the foreseeable future, and how long will it take to get match sharpness back for them ?.

 

Imagine at PSG, Kvaratskhelia done his knee and was out till January, they punted Doue and Dembele. Then arsed about right till the end of the transfer window and signe Jamie Vardy, Sancho and Grealish.

Thats basically what we've done.
