Lack of recruitment has allowed it to go stale. You know it’s grim when your club captain is asking for fresh faces.

 

I dont think it's just down to recruitment. Rodgers should still be getting better out of that squad imo. He refuses to ever change things up. The horseshoe is killing us

He changed his approach in Europe last season and it worked well. Saw us with the best European campaign in a very long time. The recruitment is where it all starts. If you don’t have the quality there, the football will get worse. We’ve lost quality through transfers and injuries and haven’t replaced them.

 

It’s a huge part of it though.

Some of these players have been here 4 years nearly. I’m not advocating for players to be sold and not every player should go. Having players who show commitment and loyalty is a good thing but if there is too much loyalty it becomes stale: the players are good enough, the manager is good enough but complacency creeps in and more so when you’re incredibly successful.

While I’m not looking for players to be sold, we need to sell players because that’s what clubs with successful transfer strategies do. Maeda, Hatate, CCV, Forrest, McGregor, Scales, Ralston.. they’re all been here a long time. 5 of them we are relying on every single week. This is CCV and Scales fifth year, Maeda and Hatate are nearly 4 years in. I get Forrest, McGregor and Ralston are unlikely to leave; given their support of the club.

Rodhers is also guilty of the complacency in part. No doubt. I also think that he’s just had enough of having to deal with the suits. He went exactly the same way in his final year in his first stint: we’ve all seen this movie before. We can all agree that we should have had enough to beat Kairat but the negativity surrounding the club, the anger of the fans when it comes to the board. It just creates drama, it creates issues outside of the football. Yes, players should filter it out, manager should filter it out but it doesn’t happen like that. Especially when it’s all over the media in the gold fish bowl that is Glasgow.

We are also getting into a position where majority of our starting 11 are getting into their late 20s and starting to lose value.
It's similar situation to Huns were in after Europa League run. Their squad had been together 4 years and pretty much just dropped off a cliff within the next 12 - 18 months.

It's not right but I guess if Rodgers is planning on leaving next summer he's only looking at short term and the mid to long term isn't really his concern. New manager is gonna have a massive rebuild in the summer.

Schmiechel will retire, Forrest mite too. AJ, CCV, Hatate and Maeda will all likely feel they've been here long enough and with manager going and age they mite want a fresh challenge. Pusey, Saracchi and whoever else we bring in on loan in next 24 hrs will all leave at end of the season too. Then there the massive issue of our captain.
