Player Suggestions

Celtic Underground, so take it with the customary pinch of salt, claimed a couple of months back that we were keeping an eye on Caleb Yirenkyi, a 19 year-old CM/CDM currently playing for Nordjsaelland.

I was sort of bored this morning and having a look back at some of the random players we’ve been linked with throughout the summer, as tenuous as some of those links were, and apparently over the last couple of days it’s been reported that Arsenal are casting their eye over him or are potentially getting ready to make a move.

I’ve just pulled two of the more recent YouTube compilations (and I was skimming a little bit, so there’s probably a decent amount of overlap in terms of the clips being shown):








He’s young, and maybe still a bit raw in some aspects, but he’s absolutely the sort of profile we’re crying out for in the midfield - a physical presence, albeit not an out-an-out destroyer type, who can play a bit. If he keeps developing, and given that he’s only 19 you’d imagine that he will, he’s the kind of player that could be going for mega money in a few years time.

I’ve mentioned this before, but it’s frustrating that it feels like our current midfield situation has left us in a sort of limbo where we technically have some depth on paper, but what we’ve actually got is a few guys that are a bit hot & cold/Jekyll & Hyde-like or sort of fill similar roles without actually offering up anything all that different.

 

Josh Brownhill still sitting without a club since leaving Burnley,get him in ffs Brendan would be a great player here, no transfer fee so we can afford the wages

 

David Datro Fofana is still at Chelsea - surely he's available?

 

Looks like Fabian Rieder is going to Augsburg for €8m. Didn't really kick on since leaving Young Boys but played well in the begining of last season for Stuttgart before being frozen out again. Think he could have been good for us. We desperately miss a creative central midfielder.

 

Gies a couple of weird loans from prem teams that'll play like 4 games only for us.

I've now moved on to Free Agents as this club won't get the necessary done tomorrow I fear. Some who could maybe offer us something if you could get them to fulfil potential....but we're desperate so who knows?

Ziyech 32 RW - great technically but lightweight and not really the type of profile we need with pace and ability to beat players
Eriksen 32 CM - Would probably be an instant upgrade on a lot of our options but I don't know if he's anywhere near fit enough these days
Karsdorp 30 RB - Could be short term cover until Johnston is back. Very promising youth career but a move to Roma didn't work out and he's had a lot of underwhelming spells since.
Pjaca 30 LW - Another player who was once rated but injuries halted him in his tracks, played for Zagreb last season and scored 6 goals in 34 appearances. Unlikely to offer much.
Ounas 28 RW - probably the one I could see doing something here if he was fit and got his head right. Really silky winger with a great left foot. Not sure what his story is now but his contract has expired for a club he was playing for in the middle east.
Riedewald 28 CDM - released by Palace at the end of the season, versatile player who normally plays as defensive midfielder but can play CB or LB too. Could probably do a job for us

Generally this is scraping the bottom of the barrel but if we have gaping holes in the squad tomorrow it will be our only option to fill them. These guys usually come with big red flags on their attitude or their injury but we don't seem to have anything at all in our youth setup that could offer something else.

 

Mika Gots from Ajax is another player we should be in for. Currently behind Moro, Gloukh and Berghuis in the pecking order so Ajax may be willing to part.

 

Looks decent and if clubs like Arsenal are looking at him it again begs the question what the * do our scouts do? Surely they must have noticed him when they were scouting Nygren

* shame we haven’t got tens of millions in the bank and raked in £30m or so this window for that to ever be possible

 

For right wing I would go to Monaco for Krepin Diatta. He has had a tough time of it at Monaco but was very highly rated at Club Brugge before that. Very quick and has even played like a wing back previously due to being decent of the ball.

His end product isn’t always consistent but at this stage of the window and if they are accepting bids of that sort for fringe players he would be a good option for right wing.

I can’t believe the Georgian winger Datashvili is still at ASSE in Ligue 2, he would be a terrific signing for either wing. Probably pricey but someone who would come in and make an immediate impact.
