When a player hits the first man twice I'd take them off set pieces it's something that always bugs me not just with Engles.

I would argue we actually look a better side with him in it the midfield looked better last season imo

We improved when he came on but it was a low bar. His set piece deliveries last night were terrible. There was another moment where he should have played the ball into the box first time but he spun around back on himself to get it on to his left foot, bizarre decision.

He was poor. But I'd still have started him.

Do they still have those wooden free kick wall guys? If they do they should put them at the side of the box and not let him back off the training ground until he hits 30 corners in a row and doesn’t hit them once.

Get the wooden free kick wall guy on instead of Engles next game.

Arne Engels admits he has held talks with Brendan Rodgers over his disappointing amount of minutes for Celtic this season.

The club's record signing, brought in for £11 million from Bundesliga side Augsburg last summer, has only started one Premiership game and it came when Rodgers heavily rotated his side for the win over Livingston.

The 21-year-old was also benched for both legs of the failed Champions League play-off attempt against Kairat Almaty.

New signing Benjamin Nygren has been stealing the limelight as the attackng force in the centre of midfield and has been impressing so far, making it even more difficult for Engels to get in.

The Belgian isn't shying away from how gutted he is and admits it has been tough to be sidelined.

He said: "Yes, 100 per cent. Of course, you should be disappointed because I think I can add something to the team.

"That's what you need to have in mind also, that you want to bring something to the team.

I'm trying to do my best every time in training and when I'm coming in trying to affect the game and trying to do my best.

"I'm hoping that I will get some more minutes and I'm working for that.

"I'm really doing hard work to get into the team and hopefully I will."

Engels also revealed he has spoken to Rodgers about his lack of game time. But he isn't about to cause any problems and knows it is down to him to convince the manager to start picking him in the XI again.

He added: "Yes, of course. But everybody knows it also a bit from themselves that they just need to work hard and maybe be a bit patient or something.

"But I think it's up to me to show in those minutes that I'm getting that I need to be in that starting 11 and I really want to.

"So I'm hoping to help the team a lot more in the upcoming games.

    Pretty words.

He needs to show a lot more, has done since day 1.

He looks every penny like a 4m speculative hope of upsell. That he is the most expensive signing in our history is currently a joke.

He looks nothing like a 11m player, at present his role as sub is right and similarly means Bernardo is a pretty expensive trinket on a bench doing sweet * all.

I like what I’ve seen of his reaction to Nygren being infront of him so far I like.

He was a massive part of our success in the CL last season, people ignore that for some reason. He has talent.

His problem has been how to couple mentality with what he can do. He’s either hid, or he’s tried to show the mentality and * what he is capable of football wise by trying to.

So far though, I like what I’ve seen. He has the talent no doubt. Upto him now

Tomorrow is a huge game for Engels if he plays. Yet to really have any kind of impact in a derby and a few performances where he has been anonymous.
I felt he was bullied at times by Raskin and Diomande, particularly in the January defeat. Must impose himself in these games.

What is it that you like? I don’t think he has done too much at all yet this season. Talking is one thing but needs to do it on the pitch.

This is going to sound a major low bar but he’s not hid at all. Showed grit when he’s been called on

He’s not been excellent but it’s a reaction I was looking for and worried might not get.

Makes me happier that he’ll kick on. It was my issue with him last season the mentality side sometimes

I don’t share it mate. I might well be wrong and would be happy to eat my words if he goes on to kick on and I still hope he does.

I still have big doubts about his mentality and willingness to do the dirty side of the game. I feel like iv yet to see a coming of age performance from him. I think he has the technical ability but he really needs to impose himself more.

He got the assist for Kuhn in the League Cup final when we went 3-2 up last season.

It needs to be better than just an assist. We need a performance. He is yet to put in one of note vs them.

Aye. I've defended him but I'd really like to see him start to take games by the scruff of the neck. Cliche I know. But true.

He's featured in 5 games against them, won 2, drawn 1.

The first one he came on as a sub and played 28 minutes, when we beat them 3-0, and he was still settling.

He came on as a sub in the League Cup final and helped us win it, getting an assist for what should have been the winning goal, and scoring a penalty in the shootout, so he has had an impact in an important game against them.

The 3-0 game at Ibrox in January, he only played 15 minutes as a sub.

He played the full match when we lost 3-2 at home. Created two chances for us. Whole team wasn't great in that game, especially first half.

Played ok if not great in the 1-1 draw after the split and was our best midfielder on the day. Subbed after an hour.

So overall he's been fine against them, and tbh hasn't had too many opportunities against them.

Starts for me tomorrow off the right with Daizen and Balikwisha in the 3.

    Engels in midfield instead.
