I think the board may have gone to him snivelling asking him to provide some cover for them. It feels like their words hes saying.

Theres a slight mea culpa regarding the timings which I think is the boards way of acknowledging some semblance of responsibility. But then a heavy a dose of how well the run the club is financially, how smart Desmond is and how much the board have the clubs interest at heart. Just to make sure the fans dont forget that.

Its total bullshit and no way could Rodgers believe that. Hes said as much himself.

The only person even less suitable for that job is Lee Congerton :giggle1:

Rodgers can't spot a defender and has a blind spot for average English players and is ready to overspend on them. So, do you really think he has any ability needed for that job? :giggle1:

I'm pretty sure he said something around the line 'if we fix this together I'll stay' last August as well and nothing changed. The board had enough time to change but aren't interested in. For me there is no sign why anything should change. It's the same as every transfer window and Rodgers criticised it more than enough.

I think the only way something would change dramastically was if our owners change or Lawwell gets dementia or dies. If he only steps down, he will probabl continue to sniff around and make everyone miserable :giggle1:

Given he’s clearly had zero authority in transfer matters all summer it is mystifying if he is now able to hold up a 7m transfer out for a player who everyone can see is beyond average,

    I just don’t get it.

    Sheer chaos.

I'm not having a go at him, tbh. I still like him and want him to sign a new deal.

But the change of tone is confusing. He's had to say the same thing a million times it feels like and it hasn't changed since he was here in 2019. Its a massive issue that needs clarified.

People need to lose their jobs over this. Specifically whoever is tasked with negotiating deals. That all currently points to Nicholson and Mckay.

see how things are come Monday.

If idah is gone and 2/3 proper signings are in, and no loss Sunday, there is a chance for recalibration.

if any of above does not happen I think there will be a need to cut ties and move on.

and agreed - this can simply never happen again.

It has been such a shitshow that I don’t think the fans will accept it again. That may be a positive Rodgers legacy, things are clearly toxic within elements of the leadership team at present so worst / best case proper change is finally enforced

    * that, DoF * is the worst things about Rodgers strengths. He’s a quality coach, very high quality coach. DoF stuff though? That’s not his strength

The reason I say that,he seems to be the only one who has any sort of vision for our club.

To be fair, Rodgers cannot get signings in - he can only let Idah go. I believe the board will escape punishment from the fans if Rodgers delivers a win tomorrow. Regardless of the transfer window. Most UK-based Celtic fans seem passive enough that a real outpouring of anger towards the board seems unlikely. As much as I'd like to see it happen.

For me the damage is done regardless. Even if we do business.

I think personally those in charge of the dealings have had enough chances. As Rodgers said himself this has been going on since Lennon was here the first time.

Hope we get stuff done, ofcourse..but there really should be no hiding from the aftermath of this.

Transfers aside, major questions have to be asked about Rodgers if he cannot beat a Russell Martins Rangers side at this moment in time.

He's lost all big games in 2025. Cup final. To Clement, to Barry Ferguson and now Almaty. We've never gotten to grips with them recently and scraped a penalty win the league cup final after conceding 3 in that game.

Huge pressure is on him I feel, regardless of the state of the squad.

It’s an absolutely fair point re our last 5 big games against a * hun side, Almaty and the Cup Final have gone very badly. That’s not good enough. However the board has absolutely cunted the last two transfer windows, if they repeat that form the next 3 days he’d have every reason to walk. He’s finally laid down the gauntlet about getting players in, maybe too late though.
