We should beat them but my confidence in the team has been eroded away now.

Faced too many inferior on paper teams in big games now and failed to put in a performance

Sadly we are stuck with BR for the rest of the season. For me i would get him gone. Time and time again we see he is anything but a elite manager. Always plays the same players regardless of their form.

I know we’ll get some * manager next like Maloney or Brown, but I honestly can’t wait until this * is gone.

False, narcissistic, lying, weird * of a guy.

All the new/dormant faces dying to put the boot in is pretty funny.

4/6 trophies since he came back and beaten in the Scottish final on penalties. Took Bayern to the last minute in the knockouts.

    Sound lads, sound.

This... or for that matter, practicing set pieces...

According to studies conducted by the National Library of Medicine and Biotechnics, at the 2018 World Cup, roughly 38% of all goals came from either FK, corner or penalty spot. That number was slightly down to about 34.7% in 2022, but that still means set pieces accounted for 1 in every 3 goals scored. These numbers DO NOT include goals from shootouts, just for clarification.

Admittedly, the 2018 WC was a record high in terms of set piece goals, but examining this over a longer period still paints a pretty comprehensive picture, considering the 5 previous WCs (36.3% in '98, 28% in '02, 31.3% in '06, 24.1% in '10 & 22.2% in '14), but over that extended period it is still an average of over 28% of all goals during those tournaments coming from set pieces.

After all, set pieces are the one thing in football that can be practiced and drilled, in order to attempt to be replicated in a match situation, whether it is attacking or defending, corners, free kicks and penalties, so why is this seemingly continually neglected?

If 1 in 3 are conceded at World Cup stage, and even if it's unreasonable to expect that sort of return, is it unreasonable to expect this aspect of the game to get much more attention than seems to be the case at the Lennoxtown training complex currently?

Statistically, across all professional football approximately 3% of all goals scored are generated from corner kicks (either direct or indirect, scoring within 20 seconds of a corner being taken). This is as true in EPL right through the pyramid down south, and across Europe and the world, in both club and international football, and yes, even here in Scotland.

Since the 3-0 win v St M on January 5 2025 (when Trusty scored), Celtic have had 287 corner kicks...

And have scored 1 goal. 1 in 287 is a far, far cry from 3%. Closer to 0.3%.

Having a Plan B is great, and being able to adapt depending on the opponant and in-game situation is something that we would all very much love to see, or even little tweaks when it is obvious something is not working or based on what the opposition are doing, to switch it up. And I totally agree. Professional footballers should be capable of dealing with more than just 1 single playing system. But the truly criminal and wastefulness at set pieces really is a travesty.

I can't get the appetite for him to be sack just now when you consider he's been shat on from a height by the board (Again) and on top of that if we did sack him the shortlist would be guys like Kennedy, Maloney and Brown I have no doubt of that considering how tight we've been in the window we wouldn't push the boat out for a Marco Rose or Ange

Surely nobody genuinely wants him sacked?

I get why some might want a change end of season.

If he can't beat that rangers team I think he should get 'emptied'.

EDIT - I'm saying this because of those 210 minutes against Kairat. Board shafted him, but you got to get the best out of what you got and he did nothing.

Best Celtic manager in my lifetime no doubt.

Victim of his own success domestically in effectively starting to normalise trebles.

In the CL he has been decent. Good games against Man City, Bayern, Gladbach Away, Anderlecht in his first stint. EL last 32. Got ridiculous 2x CL groups including Man City, PSG, Bayern, Barca and a very good Gladbach (Lars Stindl one of the best players I’ve seen at CP)

He has executed all this with sub par investment and investment decisions. I’m thoroughly convinced he does not identify or sign off every player - that is for the scouting division.

When you work at a corporate, division of labour is so commonplace. Rodgers is tasked with managing the team. Yes he may have input but it is actually not his job to a) sanction the spending b) negotiate a potential transfer and c) actually identify the majority of the players who we try to sign

Normalisation of trebles is simply down to the level of competition.

MoN did it against much MUCH sterner opposition, as well as reaching the Uefa cup final.

He was the best manager many of us had in our lifetime, and yet, just like every other Celtic manager since, once Desmond turned tap off he upped sticks.

Rodgers' inability to switch things up and approach games in real time is a major flaw in any argument pertaining to him being either "elite", the best weve ever had, or the best we can do.

In fact, given the financial disparity between ourselves and the other sides in the league, his record against Sevco, NOT RANGERS mind, Sevco is pretty atrocious.

One win in four against Slippy G? Disgrace.

One win out of five agsinst Sevco last season in 90. Conceding NINE goals in 3 games, losing against * numpties like Clemente a punditry team??? Sackable.

His record in Europe with all of his previous CL clubs is frankly embarrassing.

Hes a good manager, but his shelf life is two years at every club.

    His time is up.

And yes, we can do better. And we can definitely do better than a 3rd season Brendan Rodgers.

Scottish football is quite unique. Particularly when managing celtic or the Huns.

I still think people underestimate how hard it will be to find someone as suited or who can handle the pressure e g. Fan pressure and the media. He pretty much guarantees domestic success.

We shouldn't take that for granted...

When Rodgers walked out on the club first time around i believe that as a brand he became tainted in the eyes of many supporters, and this will always be the case regardless of what he would go on to achieve.

I can understand it, but as a support i think we've become spoiled by the domestic domination we have enjoyed over the last decade and more.

It’s funny how folk talk about his 3rd season like it was a disaster. We had won the league cup, in the quarters of the Scottish, and well clear in the league. You’d think it was the Covid season the way some folk go on about it. Oh, and all that was done whilst being handed utter dross in terms of transfers that season. That should be remembered.

Been sayin this for years. Genuinely don’t understand how we don’t seem to have a set piece “play” coach.
Still a fundamental part of the game. And if the game is tight, it could be the difference between a win or a loss.
Christ, Mcinnes at hearts is just in the door and suggested his play coach had worked on things and consequently Findlay has 3 goals this season from set pieces!
Why the * have we missed a trick on this all these years? Are we so arrogant that we think we can just walk the ball into the net all the time!!
    It’s arguably negligent management.
Christ, we’ve no even got a reliable FK taker.
    * knows the last person to score from a direct FK.
    Woeful.

For myself, as ive said numerous times, i wanted him to leave after his initial 3rd season. The shine was completely off and we looked jaded as *. Just as I wanted him to leave this summer, as the same signs were there.

So here's the crux of my reply; do you think it was acceptable to lose 10iar?

If you do then the above quote holds weight, for yourself at least.

If not, as the vast majority of fans believe, then the "spoiled" argument doesnt wash mate.

We are quite literally in the same boat as the likes of PSG and Bayern, domestically speaking. Given our comparative financial strength and resources, given extremely poor level of opposition, its not "spoiled" to expect domestic dominance. Its a realistic and wholly appropriate expectation.

If its not being delivered, then serious questions need to be asked of those running the club.

We wouldn't expect domestic dominance if Sevco weren't in debt up to their eyeballs all those years.

People pointing to them having a bigger wage budget for 2 years doesn't wash either. We could've wiped the floor with them in terms of fees and wages, we didnt. We sprung for loans and pish recruitment as usual.

But back to the point, Rodgers has seriously been dropping the ball since the turn of the year. His record against Sevco was appalling, conceding goals for fun against them, and doing nothing to rectify the tactical weaknesses and midfield holes in his set up, in three games against them.
Now weve been dumped out of the CL by a kazak side literally not fit for purpose. Obviously Desmond shares his portion of blame, but this so called "elite" manager should've had this tie over in the first leg. Then he should learned some * lessons from the first disastrous leg. He didn't.

How many defensive midfielders or alike have we been seriously linked with? Everyone knows we need one, especially given Cals decline. Hes ignoring it altogether. Again, maybe he has other priorities, but lets see if he even tactically addresses it in games. He wont because he cant.

He needs to go. This month. If not then we're stuck with him until the end of the season. I will obviously get behind him and the team. But i still stand by what I said 2 years ago. Lets see where we're at in 2 years, then I'll back him to the hilt.

    Look where we are.
