Ange’s first window under McKay was a shambles.

I think Nicholson is worse than gutless, but let’s not rewrite history.

A significant number of signings from that season, particularly January, were Ange signings.

My "evidence" was from being told by people who had the same agent who were at the club at the time.

Don't know exactly what player/deal, but he missed out on sending a vital piece of paperwork for a signing and nearly blew the whole process.

That will be me clamped, you are spot on as well.

Disagree that we need an Ange type back in - we need to actually just overhaul our recruitment department or start spending some * money.

I always wonder if the problem is the identification of suitable players or if the problem is trying to find CL level players for under 2m.

Surely when we interviewed and then subsequently hired him though, we knew that there would be teething issues? He was coming from a different sport, but a role that he had excelled in.

I just find it a bit rich, considering how many mistakes the likes of Nicholson, lawwell and Co probably have made over their careers. Everyone is human.

If it was multiple mistakes/issues and it just wasn't working, then maybe they had more of a case. It just feels like from the outside looking in that he wanted to change too much too soon and some people didn't like it.

He absolutely transformed Scottish Rugby I'm sure and given time think he would have been beneficial for us.

    All hypothetical now, mind.

    That's not evidence.

If it was true, Bankier and Co would have leaked it into the media, as they do everything else. They removed him because he wanted to delegate control away from the board. Simple as that. He didn't know enough about football and transfers and planned on bringing in professionals to deal with that. Was he perfect in his summer window? Absolutely not but he was clearly wrestling with the board in the background, whilst trying to run the club.

I didn’t mean it to come across as clamping anyone.

I also agree in the perfect route forward from the club we would go out and get a Director of Football who was on a level with CEO and Finance Director. A budget is agreed for that individual and he works with the footballing side of the club. However, the rumour mill suggests this was previously suggested by Dom McKay and even Nicholson himself to the Board and both were told to get back in their box.
There’s an Irish/ South African guy at USG who would be a cracking appointment for this and an expert in football operations where your looking for undervalued gems.

On McKay making mistakes, he was literally being asked to do things that no CEO of a football club would normally get involved in but hey Peter did and quite often to the detriment of the club.

In reality though the best we can hope for is a good manager comes in with local knowledge of an untapped market and a cracking footballing agency that can run transfers on their behalf.

A DOF shoulda been in place when Ange replaced Lennon, I’m sure there was even people interviewed. At least then when a manager leaves its panic stations as everything will be aligned.

The McKay stuff has always felt like conjecture, could easily say he wasn’t upto standard or he didn’t tow the party line from upstairs and tried to change too much depending on your stance.

It’s crazy our hit rate on signings has got so bad we are hoping the next coach happens to have a good understanding of a niche market.

Michael Nicholson looked good for most of Ange's tenure, because Ange controlled the whole process of getting signings in, and not Lawwell. If Lawwell is removed from the club, our transfers would probably improve.

Was there not an internal review going on. It's hardly objective when you are marking your own homework. One thing Aberdeen did was at least get an outside consultancy to apply some level of objectivity, but we wouldn't like their modern ideas on how to improve governance and measure success.

Does an intenal review not just mean everyone tells each other they’re doing a great job? If I reviewed myself at work I’d not change a thing.

Oh no, imagine trying to modernise the place and improve that’ll never catch on.
