His place in the team is nailed down..I think this is a massive problem in the team..not anywhere near enough competition for places so complacency kicks in..the whole team needs a proper refresh with competition for everyone...

Scales was our best player across both legs.

    Which says everything.

Hate to say I told you so but the idea that CCV is levels above Scales as some fans like to kid on is preposterous. There's not an awful lot between them. CCV not as good as some say, Scales way better than most fans give him credit for.

Scales is actually one of the better players at this club, whatever that tells you I don't know. The only reason he gets so much flack is because he was a 500k signing from the League of Ireland and because he's Irish he couldn't possibly be any use. If he was Swedish or Japanese he would be a fan favourite.

CCV had a couple of shaky moments over the two legs but he wasn't the problem, the problem was the other end of the pitch and McGregor who hung his centre backs out to dry. CCV and Scales or whoever else plays centre half for us is expected to play as playmaker when teams press us all because McGregor cannot take the ball with his back to goal. McGregor will run all day for you but he lacks character on the ball and that cost us over the two legs.

CCV is levels above Scales. Ridiculous to claim otherwise :56:

He is up there with VVD as one of the greatest CB in the last 15 years.

Carter-Vickers is miles ahead of Scales. To say otherwise is moronic.

You watched our last 2 euro games? Scales head and shoulders above CCV. Scales has been our best defender this season and to say otherwise would be moronic.

CCV gets away with murder on here while Scales cops every little problem Celtic have.

Aye, unfortunately I watched them. Scales wasn't head and shoulders above Cam at all. CCV has made a couple of mistakes in recent games but Scales makes them regularly throughout the season.

Who brings the ball forward? Scales. Who passes it just to scales and hardly ever brings it forward? CCV. So scales makes more mistakes because he's left with the responsibility to actually move the ball.

Scales brings the ball forward because of instructions from the manager and he's * * at it. He's infuriatingly slow to make a pass, that's why teams as * as Kairat were happy to leave him on the ball. His weight of pass is * * too.

So CCV gets told to only pass sideways to scales? Thats what's been happening.

It’s clear as day CVV puts himself out there knowing his body is * but peak for peak CCV has had some of the best performances ice seen from a celtic centre half.

If you ignore the two balls Cam played forwards in the first leg to try and get us up the pitch, aye. Cam is clearly not the one instructed to bring the ball forward, we want the better defender focusing on covering. Scales does a decent job with some interceptions and tackles, and is decent in the air, but I still don't rate him highly and think it's embarrassing we haven't managed to improve on him in three seasons.

Scales has maybe been marginally better in the 5 games this season but there’s not been much in it. Let’s not get silly though, there’s light years between them. A long term injury to CCV would be an absolute * disaster.

Would it though? Hes missed the champions league most seasons. Infact everytime he's came back and its been him who's caused a goal. Folk keep viewing scales as scales 2 seasons ago back from Aberdeen. Hes developed loads since then. Hes been the best player multiple times. "We can improve.." can be said for every single player on this team.

CCV hasn't been great for a while id imagine because hes nursing an injury. Scales had some phenomenal performances last season in Europe. Scales has his faults and so does CCV. Im saying Scales doesn't get the credit he deserves and CCV gets away with murder at times. Said it in the Scales thread, imagine Scales made the 2 mistakes CCV did.. people would be all over it, CCV does it, he gets a pass... its * weird..

This shouldn't be a CCV v Scales debate anyway but at the moment Scales performances and form is just as good as CCV if not better. form is all that matters in football. ( well not all ha but its very important)

PS given a choice of a fully fit fully focused CCV or Scales id have CCV all day long but the moment Scales is playing better.. and compared to the rest of the team hes up their as our best player.. its not a high * bar though unfortunately

I don't think it's weird, it's just that players who have performed so well historically tend to get a bit more leeway from fans, rightly or wrongly.

CCV seems to be above criticism because hes been outstanding since he came. At the moment he deserves criticism because hes been poor recently. Those 2 mistakes at this level were outrageous no matter how good hes been in the past

Totally agree - and the one who needs it most is McGregor.
