Spot on mate. The system and set up is what annoys me. When it worked was when GT would invert and support Calmac.

It’s either he makes everything work or it won’t. That’s our system just now. And it is criminal

Mcgregors biggest downfall is his own ability. Manager after manager has used him at 6 because he has a better passing ability and control in tight spaces than any player we have.

We genuinely have ruined mcgregors career as his best days have come as an 8 and 10. It should be him and Hatate with a solid holding player behind them.

won’t come down on him too much as he’s been shoe horned in for years and in Europe is constantly fighting a losing battle.

sign a * defensive player and play McGregor further forwards.

Every * is wrong and you are right.

He is clearly incapable of playing the role at a certain level. Domestically against Livi or Falkirk, he looks like Pirlo.

In games like last night or any of the last 5 derbies, he looks like Willo Flood. In fact Willo Flood had a lot more dig about him.

A natural 8 or 10 but 6’s cost too much money. No clue how he hits the first penalty against the sheep but doesn’t last night. Just Celtic things.

club need to come out and explain the order of penalty takers and who decided who would take what actually.

think Rodgers has the ability to take some heat off the players if it was his decision which order. Otherwise in what world would you allow Idah to take that first one

No, genuinely we're right.. its delusion to say otherwise.

Apart from one season which was a anomaly, he's been a major part of the most powderpuff midfield we've ever had for a sustained period.. this is with him being a constant in our European failures.

He is not suited to the number 6 role at that level.. that is not a suggestion he hasn't been a great servant, but a basic realisation that he's been shoehorned into a position

Rodgers himself didn't even seek a proper destroyer to be brought in. He wants wingers, strikers, a backup LB, but no concrete rumors have linked us to a defensive midfielder. McGregor is shoehorned into the position of a holding midfielder because we keep picking managers who neglect the defensive side of the game.

He's been diabolical over both games but the system is definitely the big problem and what/who we've got..

He’s been a fairly solid player no doubt but always found he was overrated. Especially in Europe he’s never really looked at that level.

He took our first one in the cup final when we beat the huns. And in the semi against Aberdeen. He scored both. Didn’t see anyone complaining then about him going first.

Said it before but not going for a proper big strong number 6 has been one of the most glaring holes we have in our team currently and it has been there for quite a while. McGregor does a good job there domestically most of the time but he is not a natural and true 6 and that gets exposed sometimes domestically but usually when we play in European games against teams with more size and or athleticism. This is getting compounded now I feel by the fact that McGregor while still a quality player is 32 now and given the huge game load he has had for so many years it looks like the years are taking their toll.

Callum McGregor insists Celtic have to bounce back from Champions League disaster – by setting the record straight against Rangers.

The Hoops captain was devastated after one of the worst European results in the club’s history shattered hopes of another crack at the group stage.

Celts were left humiliated by their exit in Kazakhstan but McGregor insisted the Scottish champs can’t let the crushing disappointment send their season into a tailspin

Brendan Rodgers’ side can open up a NINE point lead over Rangers with a victory at Ibrox.

But McGregor admitted Celtic will need to rip up the narrative around the Old Firm clash after misfiring in recent encounters.

The Hoops have failed to win the last three clashes since edging out their fierce foes in the Premier Sports Cup Final last December and were thumped 3-0 in Govan in a two year winless run at Ibrox.

McGregor will attempt to park the Euro misery and rally his men for the Glasgow showdown.

He said: “The experienced players now have to get around the team.

I spoke about that in the changing room, about having to reset.

“There will be pressure that comes with this result (against Kairat), of course there will be at Celtic.

“But we have to stay together now.

Everyone else will try to pick us apart but we have to stay together and we have to stay strong.

“We now have an amazing game on Sunday to go there and set the record straight a little bit.

“Then players all know that and they know what’s required.

And hopefully by Sunday we’ll be there.”

The Celtic squad made the 10 hour 3,500 mile trek back from Almaty in the early hours of Wednesday morning on the back of a gruelling 120 minute slug fest in the far east.

But McGregor insisted the derby clash is the perfect opportunity to get Celtic going again.

The Hoops will be in the the Europa League draw on Friday, and said: “It’s probably the best game to have next, to be honest. You probably couldn’t pick a better game.

“The games just get bigger and bigger at Celtic and this group understands that.

As soon as you go out of competitions like the Champions League it hurts the team.

“But the only way you can answer that is by bouncing back in the next game.

“It’s just important that everyone in the changing room sticks together because only us who can fix it. And we need to fix it.

It was a disappointing night for us in Kazakhstan but we have an opportunity now to exercise some of the demons from that defeat.

“Of course, we all wanted to be playing in the Champions League and we’re all very disappointed that it’s not happening.

“But we still have the Europa League and still have a good season.”

I think McGregor could do with concentrating on his own game for a bit.

Hes trying to play his role and 4 other players role at the same time. It our cbs and cms cant pass the ball without needing him to point where and when to play it etc then theres a problem.

The bermuda triangle of passing between Scales, CCV and McGregor is hurting us in these bigger games and something the coaches need to look it.

Its too easy to stick a man on McGregor and them we struggle to move the ball forward

He's a victim of poor coaching and tactical decisions as was Scott Brown, both players we're much more attacking minded players in the early phase of their careers and had attributes and traits suited to that attacking side of the game, Brown was a dynamic midfielder who would carry the ball with good technical ability, Cal was a left sided midfielder with an eye for goal and a good range of passing. After sometime at Celtic both ended up standing between two centre backs telling one to pass to the other all the time remaining first choice in the eyes of the coaching staff, how either of them got away with offering next to nothing for so long is beyond me. I'd much rather see Cal play further forward if at all, as one of the number 8's beside Reo with Engels playing the 6. I get that Engels isn't everyone's cup of tea but he's much more athletic than Cal and has good technical attributes to play out. Ideally Cal would drop out for Nygren but I don't think that anyone thinks that is going to happen.

Wont hear a bad word about calmac. A * club legend. He can only play with the dross that are in our club ffs. Him and jamesey are the epitome of one club players who could have left years ago for pastures new and far more money but they stayed loyal. HH

If we had centre backs who were good on the ball he probably would play further up I think.

Hes in the role hes in because Rodgers sees it as the solution to having CBs that are mediocre in possession I think.

Its become a bit exposed now though. When it reaches the stage that Karat Almaty have you sussed and you are struggling to move the ball forward a re-think is needed.
