Think of how daft a thread this would have looked in August 2002 after being knocked out by Basel.

When the dust settles people will rally behind the team in Europe and rightly so. But that can be separated easily from the disgust with the board’s lack of planning and investment.

My theory is that the board thinks they've found the most profitable way of running the club, which is that we get some £40m for qualifying for the champions league, and we can qualify regularly without spending as much as that. To go to the next level and put ourselves in a position to regularly reach the last 16, we'd have to spend more than the prize money we'd get from that, so the board won't do it. That way we just spend the bare minimum we need to win the league, which should be enough for us to qualify, but of course makes nights like tonight all the more likely.

I don’t think that’s the case. A lot of us are thinking about giving it a miss completely. Genuinely mental. Would never have contemplated not watching us against the huns especially away but I’d rather spend some quality time with the mrs & 2 kids atm. Unlike the board (and manager), I know they won’t take me for a complete * fool. Well they might but it will be a jokey fool as opposed to a complete * of a fool which is what the club are taking all of us for right now.

While a boycott may work, it will just never happen and it's easy to say we should but we can't fault people for wanting to be at Celtic Park supporting the team. Those without season tickets will hoover up ones that don't go to season ticket holders as they might not get much chance to see them that often.

So then what would have happened if we scraped by Kairat. This team would get exposed at the Elite Level that's the harsh truth of our current state of affairs. At least with the EL we have a better chance to make something happen.

Sadly that is similar to where ive got to now. We are just consumers being fleeced at this point. Better things to do.

You’re right, we would get expose. We’ll also get exposed against half decent sides in the Europa based on that showing.

But everything comes back to the fact we should NOT be in a position where we would get exposed in either competition. We were a bawhair from going through against Bayern & more than held our own last year in the CL overall. Now you’re saying we’re better off in the EL to avoid embarrassment in the CL. That is so * depressing on multiple levels & so inexcusable as well given our situation.

The difference is, back then the club put a competitive team together. If we would have done that and missed out against Almaty we would at least know we would have a much better chance at suceeding in Europa than without the improvements.

Now we have a team too * for even the Europa League and probably a board refusing to invest because there's no CL money coming in and they prefer to sit on the 70m for I don't know how long.

Very different situations but I do agree, general speaking, the Europa League is the right competition for us. If we would act like a professional football club.

Back then Basel were ‘nobodies’ and it was a complete disaster. We also had world class players in that side which is a million miles away from what we have now.

Doubt I'll even be watching many games. Usually book time off work or work around life, schedules, etc to watch Celtic. Not this year, no way.

This side have bored me to tears all year anyway. With Rodgers mentally checked out and the board being a bunch of useless *. What's the point? Genuinely?

Don't give me this birthday caird pish about supporting Celtic and how it feels either. I know exactly how it feels and have supported them my whole life when I haven't needed to.

My interest is at an all time low and it saddens me to say that.

What European campaign in any year Desmond and co gives you any confidence we’ll do anything.

Under them we’ve played in every European competition going and haven’t won one knockout game.

I’m not saying we will do anything, if they don’t spend money on quality we won’t.

What I’m saying is when the dust settles the fans will righty back the team no matter what.

There will never be a bigger tap in for a game to boycott than that Newcastle friendly and I couldn't get away with the crowd at it.

With regards the Europa they already have 40,000 odd folk signed up on the home cup scheme who basically already bought their tickets (Myself included)

There is absolutely no doubt that there will be some fan who picks up my tickets for the Europa League but I’m 100% not signing up to a £120 match package.

Some other muppet can * take my seat. £2000 on season tickets is enough for them to hoard my money. I’m sure others will go. But aye, waste £300 plus on a 4 match pass or spend that £300 on my kids.

Might just hoard the money myself.

I’m old enough to remember the top tier being closed in the Europa League because sales were so poor.

There won’t be a boycott but supporters of Celtic will slowly turn away from Celtic over the years with the way we are being run. It’s incredibly arrogant and short sighted to think otherwise.

Some people only care about the final result and whether the team won and they think that’s all that matters to everyone else, which is why they can’t understand why people are upset even when we win the league each year. They use Celtic as a proxy for a winning feeling - which is fine but you need to understand that’s not how everyone engages in sport.

For other people, it’s more important the club are as competitive as possible. What’s happening at Celtic is we’re seeing a decision to be a lot less competitive than we should be to make sure the year end accounts look a lot better.

That will kill off at least some of the support over the years.

If we don't invest heavily in this last days, which i highly doubt, people should just boycott it, and by that i also mean BR. Put on the youngsters in the EL games.

That would be * hilarious to see the boards faces sitting there in the directors box in a empty stadium.
