Much as he has disappointed recent, I would start him instead of Reo midweek. He does seem to play well in Europe and Reo never gets going till the hour mark anyway

Hatate has to start for me. He was the only player who looked like creating something last week. Engels will also start I feel as I think Nygren will get the nod from the right.

That doesn't change the fact that he was on loan at the period I said he was. I'm also not sure I agree that he was automatically a better player than Engels at the same age. Engels made big contributions in the CL for us last year. Was easier to get in the Celtic team of 2014 under Deila our team now is much better. I think we're lucky we had Ronnie at the time or CalMac may not have been given a proper chance here or loaned out again. Seems to the way with our youths. I think Engels performance away to Bayern was as good as anything Calmac had produced until that point.

I can see where your coming from but given we are so short in terms of attacking quality in the team at the moment IMHO you absolutely have to start Hatate.

Better than anything. Calmac under Ronny by the end was a squad guy and not high up there for a valued one. Played on the wing.

Wasn’t until BR came back, returned him to CM or AM at least did he kick on from it.

It was the 2nd season, 2016/17 when he really kicked on.

Yep I totally agree with that, as you say it took Cal years to settle and thats true of the vast majority players of a similar age. Folk far too quick to jump on Engels and as I've said all along that £11M transfer fee has nothing to do with Engels or his development. So bored of people using that as an excuse.

Everyone is desperate for him to succeed, similarly with Idah. I think we are all waiting on him taking a game or games by the scruff of the neck and really influencing the outcome by his outfield play. There is no doubt he puts a lot of effort in but has he ever bossed a game, even against a lesser team within our league? That’s what I want from him as he develops. I’m hoping for a big season from him and it might just take one game to get him started. I do sometimes wonder, because we nearly always play through McGregor if that’s stifling his game, if we played it forward quicker from the back would he have more space to operate in? One thing that annoys me about him is how he throws himself to the ground far too easily, that * me right off.

I do think he would be more effective in a shift of formation. I think he naturally would play a bit deeper if not for CalMac as well. But we all know thats never going to happen. Rodgers will never move Calmac to suit anyone else so its the rest of the midfielders who have to adjust. I do think he was very good as part of a 3 with Calmac & Hatate in the CL last season though.

That last phase of added time where we had our one period of sustained pressure. He killed it every single time! Don't think he beat the first man once.

Cross after cross, from corners to free kicks. They knew that had nothing to worry about. A real lack of skill and imagination.

On the flip side, he was the only player who could step up and bury a penalty.

No a coincidence when he came on we had more energy. Not by a million miles was he the problem tonight. Tries to get forward and plays with his head up.

Should be fined purely on his inability to cross the ball or hit a free kick by the first man.
