Not saying that you are wrong about game time - there's a big opportunity for him to get games here with 3 cup comps and European games. I think the fact that he has looked like a hungrier, more potent option than Idah during pre-season and this season so far has made the coaching staff think otherwise about a loan.

"King" Kenny to come on and score in the 117th minute.

Bolton Wanderers have been chasing the signing of Johnny Kenny from Celtic this summer as they have looked to strengthen their squad as they look to make a return to the Championship.

It has been a tough start to the campaign for the Trotters, as they have only secured one victory in their opening five games

Bolton left it late to pick up a point against Lincoln City at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on Saturday, with a 97th-minute Tom Draper own goal cancelling out Freddie Draper’s opener.

There is a need to sign a striker to help convert chances in front of goal to rejuvenate the side under Steven Schumacher, and they have now learnt the likelihood of that new forward being Johnny Kenny.

Alongside Preston North End, the Trotters have been pursuing Johnny Kenny throughout the last few weeks. However, the Celtic striker signed a new contract with the Scottish giants earlier in August, which was a huge blow for both sides.

This has not stopped Bolton fully in their pursuit of the Irish striker, as they were still hoping to make a loan move for the player to help them achieve their ambitions this season.

The Trotters had made another approach for Kenny, but it was believed the offer had not been accepted.

As per information from our Chief Football Correspondent, Graeme Bailey, EFL Analysisunderstands a deal is reliant on who Celtic sign.

He said: “I don’t think there’s a massive push for him to go, but it will depend on what Celtic do in the next few days. I think a lot of these deals will depend on other people coming in.

“On the Champions League exit impact: It doesn’t really impact what they’re doing in terms of the players they are bringing in. I think they’re still bringing a few players in.”

One issue for a deal allowing Kenny to leave the club this summer may be the recent development that Adam Idah is now a target for Swansea City.

It would be hard to believe Brendan Rodgers would sanction the departure of two strikers before the close of the summer transfer window on September 1.

So, Bolton may hope that a deal for Idah to Swansea City is not agreed and that Celtic sign some more recruits in the coming days to allow them to agree a loan deal for Kenny
