Aye that’s fair view on it for me, the goal he scored though, that’s brilliant for fan opinion. No goal, there’s a lot more judgement of him playing. Goal has everyone happy, and next time he gets a chance we’ll be happy to see it.

Can only assume he's not match for yet.

As you say can't imagine City loaning out PL2 PoTY to be 5th choice up here.

Did actually seem to be way more comfortable, confident and relaxed on the ball after that point too. Passes with more pace and riskier. Good to see

I think he’ll stay and think he’ll play plenty games as well. Welsh will be gone before end of Window.

He had so much promise in the youth set up but was so unlucky with injuries.

managed to over come them and now getting minutes in the first team.

It’s been a long time since we produced a decent centre half.

And Dane Murray signed his new contract last week, got his goal on Friday night. A great moment for him. How confident are you that if need be, you can now throw him into such an environment?

"Yeah, I would have no qualms with Dane. I think what we have at the minute, we've got five center halves, of which I know through my experiences that you actually need that throughout a long season where players pick up injuries and whatnot.

“Dane came through his first preseason since he was 18, this summer was his first complete one. He came through it really, really well. And me looking at him and seeing him coming through that, I've been a big admirer of him and I think he's got all the tools to reach the very highest level.

“You know, his size, his pace with the ball. And once he gets a fraction more development, then he's going to he can be a really, really good player.

“His challenge now at the minute is he's competing with Cameron Carter-Vickers, who's been the stalwart here. But I've got no doubt over the next 12 to 18 months, there was lots of clubs have asked about him on loan and that's what I've had to weigh up, do I send him out, do I keep them here?

But no, he will stay here because I think he's a player, he will contribute for us. And okay, at the beginning now, he might not be playing every single week, but I know like against the Premiership team the other night, have no qualm. Bam, in you go. If he had to play tomorrow night, I would have no qualm.

“But he's competing on that right side with Cam. And I'm hopeful that over time he can really go and show his qualities. But more importantly, I want him here and here to show what he can do for Celtic. And there's no doubt he'll get games.

“I'm so happy for him, such a tough, I've seen him play here in the game when he was 17, 18 and then he's had a couple of horrendous injuries. But he's used that to his advantage by going away and getting, see him now, he's 6 foot 4, his body, his shape, everything's, he's really robust and strong and he looks like a proper center half. I've been really pleased with Dane, happy for him he signed his deal and now he needs to work hard to get to sign the next one."

Was good to hear Brendan saying explicitly he's competing with CCV, should mean plenty of minutes for him going forward. Really hope he can make it here.

He's deffo improved. Been a bit harsh on him pre season..

He's still a bit stiff for me on the turn and when run at. Hopefully can add a bit of athleticism to his game..

That would make sense and at this point Welsh needs to move and make a career elsewhere as it is not going to happen with us as much as you like to see it for one of our own.

Agree. We’ve been calling for it forever. As long as we keep everyone CCV-TRUSTY-SCALES-MURRAY-JSP in that order is a strong CB selection.

It has been almost a decade since a player came through Celtic's academy and established themselves as a true first-team regular.

Noise coming out of the club over the past week suggests that Dane Murray might ultimately be the man to end the concerning lack of successful graduates.

Brendan Rodgers and many others at Lennoxtown rate the central defender highly. After making his first team debut under Ange Postecoglou in a Champions League qualifier against Midtjylland back in 2021, Murray has shown gritty perseverance to battle and recover from long-term injury after long-term injury. This was the first full pre-season he came through unscathed in his senior career.

His loan at Queen's Park was cut short last season because Rodgers wanted him for first-team cover, and he was recently handed a new contract that runs until 2028, which tells its own story.

Now 22, Murray has gained enough experience and developed the maturity that the Celtic manager wants from youngsters he gives opportunities to.

"He's a great boy," said Rodgers of Murray after he started and scored for Celtic in their 4-1 win over Falkirk last Friday evening.

"He's got a lot of potential, and I think over the next 12 to 18 months he's going to really grow.

"I think his ceiling's so high. There are areas of the game that he needs to clearly, obviously work on. But he's 6'4", he's quick, he can take the ball. He has a comfort with the ball which aligns with top players. I really like him, and that's hence the reason we've tied him down. And I think he's got a great future."

Rodgers sees Murray as a long-term option at the heart of defence.

Although Celtic have received loan offers for the Scotland youth international this summer, he will stay put for the campaign, and likely be given a respectable number of minutes, given the sheer volume of games the team will play.

    My MOTM.

Only Livi ofcourse but I thought he was excellent. Use of the ball really good, showed a turn of pace, strong in the air against big striker and a goal saving tackle. He actually made more than one tackle as well, shocked to see that from our players.

Good performance. Very dominant in the air and good recovery tackle when he gave it away near the end when he looked out on his *.
