Celtic’s interest in Calvin Stengs is starting to gather pace, with Dutch outlet Voetbal International now reporting that Feyenoord are “willing to cooperate in a sale” for around £5.1 million.
The news signals a clear shift in the situation. Until now, Celtic had only made contact with Stengs’s representatives to check his interest in a move. No formal bid had gone in, but Feyenoord are now said to be open to doing business if the right offer arrives.
Feyenoord’s Head Coach Robin van Persie is reportedly happy to approve a sale at that price, which could make things straightforward if Celtic choose to push forward.
The Dutch winger is seen as a good fit for Brendan Rodgers’s side, offering creativity, experience, and the kind of quality Celtic need in the wide areas.

Stengs has played in Europe and knows what it takes to perform at a high level. He’s technically sharp, has good vision, and can play in multiple positions across the front line. That sort of player would be a boost to a squad currently short on depth out wide.

Right now, Daizen Maeda, Yang Hyun-jun, and James Forrest are the only senior wingers available to Rodgers. Marco Tilio hasn’t featured and is expected to move before the window closes. The Irishman has made it clear that reinforcements are needed, and Stengs looks like a realistic target given the price and the club’s current financial position.
With the fee now known and Feyenoord open to talks, Celtic have a decision to make. They can either move quickly to get the deal done or wait until after their European play-off tie, which carries its own risks if the player draws interest from elsewhere.

Stengs brings qualities that would suit Rodgers’s style and offer something different in attack. If the club are serious about pushing forward on all fronts this season, this could be the kind of signing that makes a real difference.

Oh how they don’t know Celtic, from the line,

“willing to sanction a sale at £5.1m, so it should be straight forward at that price”

He kinda was, there was a thing on Sky recently just him and Sutton looking over his career. Henrik said his only offers were us or back to Helsingborg when he was leaving Feyenoord

Was by the season before we got him, only reason we could at that price. Had a clause if he didn’t hit a certain amount of games, Jansen was aware of.

He’d been moved to the wing as well, not deemed good enough up front.

Thank * for that as well.

But even if we don’t count Henke, Feyernoord are riddled with great players who were once on the books, who didn’t really play there. Stengs was a better player for them.

He’s just * by injuries, and that’s more concerning than Feyernood cast off.

I'm sure there was folk saying they didn't want Man Utd cast offs when we were linked with McTominay on loan before he went to Napoli or Scott Sinclair when he was 3rd choice at Villa in the championship. Plenty of examples of players deemed not good enough elsewhere. Go back and look at the CCV thread when we were linked with him on loan from Spurs.

Think the bigger concern is with his injuries over the last couple of years.

Numerous hamstring injuries and rumours his move to MLS collapsed due to an issue with his knee during the medical

I'd rather a loan to buy with him.

Then purchase another two. Balikwisha and someone else.

I agree it's a concern and also agree with Shelby that loan with option to buy is the best option. It was just in response to the cast off comments.
