Rodgers likes Yang’s attitude and work ethic, that’s why he’s been in squads and gets game time. There’s no other reason because a guy that’s got 7 goals in almost 70 appearances should be nowhere near a Celtic wing berth in a Rodgers team. Even an average youngster would produce that never mind a good one.

There isn't a youngster I've seen that's anywhere near what the likes of Mikey Johnston was producing at that level. Even when he broke on to the scene for a short bit in the first team...and yet he was ultimately nowhere near good enough in the end..

Doak was the one that would've been a first teamer here easy but we blinked and he was already long gone..

I guess we don't have an average youngster with a good work ethic then

Plan for a guy like Yang...young guy coming to Europe for the first time from a vastly different culture...would be to settle him in the first year and get him used to the demands.

From there you're looking to build his confidence, make him 'feel' like he belongs and is good enough to hit the level required, hopefully contributing his bit along the way.

3rd season you'd be then looking for a breakthrough, getting good numbers and being a solid part of the squad.

For me he's hitting every target so far to this point. It's called player development for those who don't know. Of course on occasion it can happen that a player just clicks straight away and smashes through his targets rapidly, but to 'expect' it from a young guy from South Korea is just laughable.

Talking about his numbers is utterly pointless up till this point, the heighty of stupidity. It's from this season onwards he should be properly judged.

That’s not how it works though, there’s been plenty players in our youth teams that have slipped through the net because * such as Yang doesn’t allow them a pathway into the first team.

The above is nothing more than making excuses for a guy who's shown that he isn't good enough for us. Funny how players who were good enough, from further away, didn't require this bullshit two seasons worth of settling you're trying to afford Yang.

Talking about his contribution over two seasons isn't stupidity, it's reality. He's been an absolutely * signing and we should cut our losses.

Whilst I agree that's often the case, we're absolutely crying out for wingers at the moment. There is space for one right now even with Yang there. Clearly there is noone close to being ready

If we've to wait 3 seasons for him to be a solid squad player then I'd rather not bother. Sign the guys from a different culture that are first team ready & don't need 3 seasons to get up to speed. i.e Kyogo, Maeda, Hatate. It's season 3 & he's still a bang average winger, we've not developed some superstar.

This whole debate shows perfectly how far standards and the quality of the squad has declined.

The likes of Yang and Kenny are so far off the standard needed its embarrassing.

Our long term aim should be improving on Kyogo, Kuhn and Jota
Not settling for the next level down in Idah, Forrest and Maeda which after while becomes the new 'normal' and then drops further with the likes of Yang, Kenny being considered first team players.

This isn't the next Ronaldinho we are talking about here. Saying we should need to wait 3 seasons for any consistent form is hilarious and a pretty incredible level of defence, of a very average player.

If we had signed another winger or two by now I believe he'd have been sold.

Can't believe some still trying to make excuses for him.

Is there talent there? Absolutely, but only once in a blue moon and more often than not when Celtic already in a dominant position in the game with the opposition already resigned to the fact the game is over.

The settling in thing is real but he's had plenty of time now. If he's not adjusted to life after 2 full years then is he ever? That's assuming that's a reason still for him showing up once every 6 or 7 games.

He probably will have a decent career but it's not going to be for Celtic. We simply cannot rely on him.

Could be ideal to try get him a loan out to an Aberdeen or Dundee United. Team where he’s not gonna face 10 men behind the ball and can gain confidence from starting every game.

would this count as an international loan though as he isn’t Scottish? Or do any domestic (no matter what origin) count as one?

For me, the talent is there but I have serious reservations about him being able to put it together here. This season is his make or break. I feel he is far more effective from the left and at the minute he has a far bigger impact from the bench. He looks like he will have most of his football from the right though due to Daizen being played as a winger.

I'd love if we could get two starting quality wingers in on each side and allow Daizen to move through the middle.

Well said. People are after losing their minds, clearly. I mean, it’s okay to admire the guy’s attitude while still realising that he’s pretty *, but the kind of goalpost-moving described above must’ve required a crane.

I find it incredible that there are people who still don't see that players mature and develop at different rates. For some players 23 is still young and they won't reach their peak until 26 or 27. McCowan is 27 (28 in December) and only just got his big move. Christie took a while to be good enough for us and so did Scales (I know some think he isn't good enough). Vardy was playing non-league til he was 25. For others they're already at their peak at 23 with maybe a small bit of improvement to come eg Tierney.
Yang seems like quite a shy sensitive type and that might have held him back a bit as well but he seems to be maturing and becoming more confident.
He might prove in the coming year he isn't good enough but he has ability and a good work ethic and there's no harm in giving him this year to see if he can step up as long as we sign a quality winger he has to try to emulate.
