1970 Breaks our hearts again and again

We all know we should have won the European Cup final then. But after that the club never really kicked on as such. If the correct ambition had been achieved we would have had several European trophies by now.

 

We made the European Cup SF twice more after that, in 1972 & 1974, so that era was pretty much there or there abouts, but following Stein's car crash and perhaps even more importantly, the moment Dalglish departed for Liverpool signalled the moment in which Celtic ultimately changed and no longer was the club that players came to to fulfill their footballing ambitions but as we have now seen a well established pattern of stepping stone status, moving on too do so. Obviously there has been a core but for so many it has not been that way.

And if there were a period in which the old Board and the proverbial biscuit tin way of doing things it was in that late 70's and 80's that it really did cost that, and just like the redeveloping the stadium, it was neglected. But that was the moment far more than the 1970 European Cup Final.

 

Yes I half agree but the structure of the club should have got more ambitious after reaching a 2nd European Cup final. In 1973/ 74 Star players left when they should not have.

Then in the late 70s the Biscuit tin was moved into the front room and has remained there.

If you told Celtic fans in 1970 we would not get to a European Cup final again by 2025 they would laugh at you.

If you told Celtic fans in 1974 that could be our last semi final in the European Cup they would look for a straight jacket.

And as for now, wow the ambition is virtually zero. That league cup match v Falkirk recently, I could not give a .uck about that result.
