I don't know anything about him tbh but sounds like another promising youngster that might be snatched away much too early from us by clubs in better leagues.

There needs to be something put in place to stop clubs poaching talent below a certain age.

Just testament to how shocking the set up is in Scottish football.

Go through youth ranks in Scotland, then most likely deal with Lowland leagues??? Or show enough promise that almost any other club in England and/or mainland Europe who have a proper footballing infrastructure and go there and play for likely more money, even at a youth level and better conditions.

    * no brainer

Cannae disagree with any of that. The setup for youngsters to get actual playing experience in Scotland is awful as we all know but there doesn't seem to be any real push from clubs to change things up in some way. Somethings gotta change and the sooner the better for the good of not just the young players but the future of the Scottish game eventually.

Add a double sell-on clause, so they get 10% of the next 2 professional sales, if taken at the youth/pro crossover stage. Doesn't really make much impact (it'll be absorbed by clubs as a cost - tax free) but helps keep a trickle-down to development clubs

I wonder if they could do something like you can’t receive any sort of fee for a player signed under ~19 unless they play 60 games for the first team or something (or x number of minutes).

Also when you do sell them, the original club gets a much bigger cut.

So any club signing players just to make a profit with no intention of them making the first team will lose money.

After signing EU youngsters is more difficult for PL clubs we are their target now. Anybody half decent will be gone.

Could weight that based on years at the clubs. So 3 years developing at say us then man city take a player off us and keeps them for a year then sell we get 75%

Won't lie and pretend I have even heard of the lad.
But not gonna be surprised clubs are sniffing around our youth and looking to take them. Also not gonna be surprised at them leaving.

We continue to be a club that doesn't really give youth any chance or have a reasonable pathway to get them in to the first team.
There is no point to a 15/16 year old playing in the u17 then the B team, to get to 18 or 19 and know they won't get a sniff at the first team anyway.
May as well go down to Everton and get coached from a younger age for a longer period of time. Probably get a decent loan move in a year or two down the line.

Their experience and development would massively be better off than staying at Celtic for 4 years and realise they didn't develop much and are way behind the rest of players at their age.

Something along those lines would be good.

I'd also quite like a 'EPL clubs can * off' clause. :84:

We don't compete with the silly money the EPL throws at teenagers and prospects. They throw tens of thousands at dozens of these kids in the hope that one or two make the grade down the line. It's chump change to them and just a numbers game.

It's chump change to them because they're being financially doped to the tune of £150-200M a year, just for being a PART of their leagues, without actually doing anything to earn it. A prospect signed for free on a 3yr deal of ~£10kpw is only £1.5M over the whole deal, so only about 0.3% investment... For someone who's already rose to the top of a decent development setup that's a great risk/reward investment...

Edit: for what it's worth, we can do the same with their youths too, if we're smart about it!

Nottingham Forest are closing in on a deal to sign Celtic teenage sensation Dara Jikiemi, sources have told Football Insider.

Forest are now advancing in talks to lure the talented teenager, who remains very highly-rated at Celtic, to the Premier League

At just 15 years old, Jikiemi has impressed for both club and country at youth level and has captained Scotland’s Under-15 side.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed in April that Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Jikiemi and planned to bring him to England.

As a result of his continuing development through the youth ranks at Parkhead, efforts have now been made by Forest to poach him from the academy.

No wonder he wants gone. Same age as lamal when he made his debut so if he is actually a “teenage sensation”….in a time when we are low on centre half’s if he was good enough there’d surely be a pathway set out for him?

or is he actually that good or not?

what do you think we do to the other teams in Scotland its unfortunately the way of the world i doubt we will ever see a maloney , mcgeady, tierney level graduate again as they will all go down south or to Germany any player who comes through will have to be a late bloomer

Only way we get a youth player that’s good enough to come through now is if they develop very late. All the good ones are gone by 16 it’s sad to see. I can almost understand it because of the set up and pathway is a shitshow on a good day and not fit for purpose on a bad day.

Gonna be a long time before we see a top player come through a scottish academy unless the rules change to stop English sides.
