There was an article from another team talking about dealing with us when Dom McKay was here, and we were chaos, no leadership or structure.

He was a marketing man, and a good one, and it’s surprising that we went for him knowing what his strengths were and what we wanted.

What he did do, was tried to open the lines of communication between fans and the club and it was him that had and publicised Ange training the team when he first came in and the We Don’t Stop in that session.

We also got in JJ and GG for ridiculous prices under him, chaotic negotiations by all accounts and clauses for them to go for less than we wanted when they did. But we profited anyway, and we got them two for mad prices GG especially. From the snippets heard of that time though, it was anyone within Celtic talking and thinking they were the lead on the transfer.

Nicholson when he came in was the man who was extremely competent. Quietly. And done the business Ange wanted swiftly.

McKay though, as poor as he was, he played an absolute crucial role in Ange’s time here. That session in training and the war cry of we don’t stop that Celtic took up and sold the merchandise of it and that… if that wasn’t a thing we saw, and the glimpses beforehand of what Ange wanted as well… he had the worst start of any Celtic manager and he was backed 100% off of the fans. If that wasn’t there, different story.

    That was McKay that.

They two are usually not counted in it due to not being permanent here.

I don’t think there’s a right answer for who it is outwith that, but Hooper is usually discounted from they 3 as an option and he absolutely is right up there.

Dembele at his best would be it for me, but Dembele second season he got 16 is nowhere near the others.

Kyogo might be it, but think he needed the full team to play the football to get up the pitch to make the most of him, and his CL showing under Ange was shocking.

Eddy never made the CL, and think personally it’s probably him, but he didn’t play that highest level for us. Europa and some teams he did and he destroyed were that level and he did though for me.

Hooper though? Done it at every level we can play at, and excelled, hard to label the best of them clearly but I have no hesitation in saying he was the most clinical out of them for me.

And we will all patch Scott McDonald cos we don’t like him being amongst that chat :56:

Even if I couldn't, it had nothing to do with McKay.
    No he didn't.

Yeah I know, that's why I said if it was purely based on ability.
I'm fond of all the guys you mention there, all did a great job for us.

Juranovic (cost £2.5m) came from Legia Warsaw, in a league where the biggest ever sale is about £8m and most sales don't get over £5m. Giakoumakis (cost £2.5m) came from VVV-Venlo who had finished second bottom of the Eredivise. It's no surprise they were cheap. Good bit of scouting though as they were both good players for us.

You're over stating the impact of that we don't stop video imo. A lot of fans at the time, including myself, were saying after a couple of poor results that Ange wouldn't last if things didn't improve, especially the away form. The early 6-0 win against Dundee showed us what his style could achieve and we quickly got things going. I don't doubt that McKay had some attributes but claims of him being the best CEO we've had or that he was responsible for our best transfer window is frankly ridiculous.

Giakomakis was top scorer in the Dutch league as well. That was a good deal.

I largely agree with you. I just think it also had a big impact, not in isolation. McKay was incompetent though but he did have strengths, which were not exactly best suited to the role we recruited the guy for. Mad from us that.
