I’m steadily wrapping my head round him, he’s a very specific sort of defender, and think he has the physical attributes to pick up the stuff he isn’t just naturally inclined to do. He’s very similar to Starfelt but not as dialled down to the way he would just defend running back to goal and covering. He does that, but he seems to be amazing at reading and dealing with, the quickness not just sprinting, responding, turning, moving, shaping his body and that. That will be a great strength in Europe and against teams like Hibs who have Boyle in behind and Morris today coming on he showed how easy it was to nullify, and we have struggled a bit with the sub being introduced whenever he has… he’s explosive, rapid, that direct and that after defenders have settled into a comfortable style of defending causes panic and unsettles and is dangerous. That was fine with him today,

He can struggle with not so much physicality, a nice we challenge in the air or shoulder to shoulder you see his strength, but when he’s being thumped into to distract him, toes stepped on, chest elbowed, jersey pulled, kicked to the ankles, and a lot of the time blatantly pushed and pulled, striker feeling fine to give a foul to just stay on him, as an utter * of a time. Mentality comes in there. He has everything for it, he just needs to make it all marry up together

He is a good defender. Only thing that I think is keeping him out the team is the murmurs he wants back down south or italy and has offers but wont leave until closer to end of window thats why we are targeting another LCB/LB.

Trusty and Scales both had good pre seasons and have both started the season well. Jersey is Scales at the minute but I am content enough with CB options for now. The main issue is getting the attack sorted.

Rodgers praised him yesterday and spoke about how important he will be this season. Got absolutely no indication he's wanting away.

He also spoke about transfers and said hes very happy with defence and midfield and options there. So doesn't appear to be targeting anything other than forwards now

Just heard a few snippets that we had a few offers in for him from down south

Have been impressed with him this season, he's looked very confident and assured. Hope he keeps it up.

Should be starting ahead of Scales every game, wouldn’t be surprised if he pushes for a move away.

Never understood the dislike of him. He's obviously not CCV but I'd take him ahead of Scales all day. If Pusey turns out to be decent then I'm fine with our options at CB.

Could Auston Trusty’s Celtic future be in doubt?

The US international arrived at Parkhead as a big money addition from Sheffield United last summer.

He was expected to be the perfect foil for his fellow countryman Cameron Carter-Vickers.

That is how it started but that is not how it is currently panning out.

The 26-year-old, once again, started on the bench for Sunday’s win over Aberdeen and the opening day Premiership victory over St Mirren.

Brendan Rodgers has preferred to go for CVV and Liam Scales as his other central defender.

    Can you argue?

Celtic have won both their opening league games and have kept two clean sheets into the bargain.

Yes, Trusty did come off the bench in both but it was nothing more than a back-up role.

nothing more than a back-up role.

If it is then surely Trusty will be considering his future, if he isn’t already?

The American surely won’t be happy having to play second fiddle. He is used to playing first-team football.

The alarm bells must have been ringing for Trusty since last season when he didn’t even get a sniff of the action in the Scottish Cup final defeat to Aberdeen or the semi-final win over St Johnstone.

In fact, he only started one game in the final four league games and that was the defeat to St Johnstone.

Granted, a top club like Celtic needs competition for places. Brendan Rodgers might say over the course of the season that Trusty will be needed and will more than play his part.

The question is will Trusty fall even further down the pecking order with the arrival of Jahmai Simpson-Pusey on-loan from Manchester City?

That may be the case, but will it be enough to satisfy Trusty. There is already big European and English interest in him.

Clubs are watching his situation closely. For Trusty, it is also a massive year.

There is the World Cup in his homeland next year. He will be desperate to be part of that.

Trusty only has four caps and to add to that he will know he will need to be playing regularly and well at the top level.

Cooling his heels on the bench or being a big-part player simply won’t cut it.

It is whether he feels the door will open for him again at Celtic or would he have a better case moving elsewhere, where he will know he will get more guaranteed game time?

If we get our money back, or better, I wouldn't mind him going. He's looked solid but never permanently displaced Scales, which for his cost I'd be expecting him to have done.

The only waste has been Idah of the 3 big money signings. Also a lot of the inflated fee is not Rodgers fault but the board as they thought they could strong arm Norwich by waiting to later in the window for a cheaper fee and it ended up actually being more expensive.

This idea we wasted money last season to me is only true of Idah. The board only have themselves to blame for that one.

I think they bid 4M for Idah in early July initially and actively tried to negotiate a cheaper fee than the 9M they paid.

I know its the popular option to always blame the board but in this particular case I think Norwich stuck to their price and the board wound up paying it because Rodgers wanted the player.

Haven't seen anything to support that. Scales has the starting jersey on merit.

To be fair both have started the season well so no complaints with either player at the momemt and long may it continue. We play plenty of games over the course of a season for them both to get plenty of game time.

He's much better than Scales for me. Wouldn't be selling..
