If your telling me Idah can’t perform because he has no competition even though Maeda started games once Kyogo was gone and he’s still here.

Think Rodgers is sticking up for him which I don’t think will help, needs dropped and a serious attitude shift.

 

Rodgers has to back him just now, there’s not really anyone else, but he’s not blind, he knows Idah won’t do. He’s hardly going to say publicly that he’s not good enough.

 

Aye I found the competition comment weird as well considering the guy who kept him out the team is still here. Also doesn't say very much for the 2 strikers we've signed and the other we just gave a new deal to

Not being silly or exaggerating or anything, but I genuinely think he is worse now than when he first came in.
Worse even than this time last season (well from when he came back in at the end of August)

Which, for a 24 year old is actually quite impressive to be regressing in ability.

He did some good things against St.Mirren but I thought he was poor today. Just wasn't involved much. Needs a goal.

 

Almost like he was Norwich third choice and people questioned how the * he was gonna become a player for us.

Lessons learned - it's alright shopping around and bargains to be had in lower divisions.
But when a guy's already 3rd choice at * Norwich, then we are probably shopping a bit too low in the basement.

It's unreal we paid what we paid but think the board sanctioned it due to his age and potential

I think the guy just can't take the pressure and is in his own head, we aren't making things easy with the support or lack of it, maeda is poor the now and Yang or Forrest ain't good enough either.

Engles trusty not deemed good enough either

We signed him on the back of his loan and especially that cup winning goal. Rodgers obviously saw something in him that he felt could develop. He was big with the support after that.

No chance we would have bought him otherwise I think

 

Absolutely the front line as a whole is poor, but don't think any of them compliment each other.

It's such a poor bunch really.
Like Maeda is better through the middle and needs others with pace and reactions similar to him to play those fast paced balls in.
Yang needs better support and someone to aim for, idah needs probably guys like Jota and an Abada to lay things on a plate for him, because he isn't gonna do the work himself.

We could carry one guy in the front line, not 2 going on 3 and with zero backup for support either.

As much as I do think Idah is not good enough, we equally don't help the lad either

It's a weird comment for him to make

 

There are some things hes doing, in fairness, which are just not being capitalised on by the team.

I mentioned above I counted three times today where he came deep and layed the ball off - and actually did bring a marker with him creating space. But nobody made a run or a pass into the space he crreated. The ball was layed off and then passed sidewise and out wide. So not only was the space he created not utilised. He was then out of position to get on anything had the wide player even delivered something into the box.

this is the kind of constant vibe I get with him. Despite being here for a while now, its like every game he starts feels like its his first game and he doesnt really know the style or his teammates. Its disjointed. He doesnt get them, they dont get him. Different wavelenghts.

 

Its not a question about form, will or anything like that unfortunately.

Its down to him just being a bang average footballer and i hope he gets moved on for his sake as i feel sorry for him.

It got sanctioned because he's Ireland's #9 and DD's a sentimental old soul. If Idah's dad settled in France, we wouldn't be having this conversation. By the same token, if the Go Ahead Eagles had a player called Jacob O'Breum, he'd be getting signed for £9m on the last day of the window.

There's other factors at play obviously - lazy scouting, last-minute negotiations, etc. But £9m still doesn't get spent without a degree of rank sentimentality of behalf of DD and probably Rodgers as well. They saw Idah through green-tinted specs.
