Confess your unpopular Celtic-related opinions

Uefa want us and England to get rid of the league cup anyway. Most European leagues have 2 trophies...league title and fa cups.
League cup is pretty much a nothing trophy and as you say...might count towards a treble but in essence it's a pointless trophy only still used over here for the prestige of saying a treble.
If it's still to be played for you're right in that a club our size should see it as an opportunity to promote youth and integrate into first team

I’ve been to some nights him as a speaker and it’s night and day, and when he’s got down to nitty gritty of games talking about them he’s very insightful. Anytime he’s been a pundit but he holds back, majorly.

The best pundit that we’ve seen at points, by far the most insightful and tactically switched on is Shaun Maloney. I’ve seen him being called boring though. Getting right into the tactics and nitty gritty * of management decisions, a lot of people watching dont want to hear. They like a pantomine like Boyd and Sutty slaughtering each other with occasional insight.

 

Yes Maloney, will make a great coach but unfortunately doesn’t have the personality or charisma to pull off being a top class manager.

Sorry but I’ve yet to hear anything insightful from Scott Brown. As you say he definitely does clam up in front of the cameras. He’s a bit better now but even his press conferences as a Celtic player/captain were at times excruciatingly awkward, the press trying to get him to say anything other than a couple of cliched sentences were akin to trying to get blood out of a stone. When you consider his personality when he’s on the pitch it does really add up but in his earlier interviews he actually came across as very introverted. Although to be honest I couldn’t care less how a player deals with the media, all that matters to me is what he does for Celtic on the pitch.

 

Actively booing and not respecting remembrance day and those who fought for all our freedom is utterly disgraceful.
I am once again ashamed to be Celtic supporter.

I miss the Tommy Burns 94-97 era.

Heartbreaking at times cause we just couldn't get the better of rangers.

But the enthusiasm and hope of the era was brilliant. The crowd seemed louder then..even although we only had a 40k capacity at the time. The singing seemed louder...there was a 'roar' not a 'cheer' when the goals went in. People went ape * in the stands when we scored against rangers.....Jorge cadete scored on his debut and the roar broke the bbc mics in the stadium......same as in 96 Scottish Cup against Dundee Utd at Celtic Park 2 goals in 2 mins in injury time..Van Hooijdonk and Thom...roar was deafening then too. You don't seem to get that now.......

Or is it just nostalgia?

And my honest opinion is, goal number 3...is the greatest team goal scored in our history.

Came from a time when a few things made football fun:

1. Scottish clubs were only just over a decade removed from competing at the top level of Europe. Rangers were outspending teams but there was still a far more balanced league set up.

2. There was a perfect mix of new exciting foreign imports, and die hard players. Having proper celtic men and rangers men on the park to love and hate made for a real energy.

3. Football was much less corporate. Fans were more traditional, working class guys, which made for a different atmosphere. Pros and cons compared to now but I can appreciate why people preferred it.

4. Celtic felt on the up after almost going busto. As you say, there was a feeling of positivity that we were working towards something. That after suffering for so many seasons we were building something that would eventually pay off.

4. Perhaps my unpopular opinion...being so dominant makes football less exciting. The reason why we remember so vividly losing the league cup to Raith, or winning the Scottish cup against Airdrie was because cup finals were not annual events. They were big deals. The highs and lows felt higher and lower when it may be years before you have an opportunity to win something. Younger celtic fans will probably never get that feeling.

As we look forward to another Sunday kick off, the second of the first 2 games of a new season, the soul of football is being ripped out of it and all we can do is sit back and watch.

Watching unknown players move about clubs in the EPL for 10s of millions you just wonder how long this can go on for.

Not much fun in it anymore.

Is it bad I selfishly like the Sunday kick offs? so no Saturday plans have to change and a lazy Sunday can be sat in front of the tv screaming at Yang to take his man on

 

Watching on the telly is fine but the hardcore travelling fans will say different no doubt.

What I remember aswell, was Tommy Burns almost ignoring defensive tactics in general in favour of gung-ho...attack...attack....football the 'Celtic Way'.... i.e. win games 6-5.
Burns did not concentrate nearly enough.o. the defensive side of the game.

One game away to Hamburg on the UEFA Cup he played Van Hooijdonk, Cadete, Thom and Di Canio all in the starting line up....sacrificing all things defensive for all out attack tactics....we got beat 0-3. Lost 0-3 in the home leg aswell cause of same tactics.

Ibrox. New Year 1997. After pummelling Goram's goals for what seemed like forever...Di Canio finally equalises to make it 1-1 and the way things are going...it's looking like we'll go on to win the game.
Alan Stubbs takes an injury. Has to come off. Tommy doesn't replace him with another centre-half...instead he brings on Andy Thom to throw even more inti the attack. Walter Smith, seeing that Burns has left a gaping * hole at the back, brings on another striker...Bo * Anderson....who runs through said gaping hole and scores 2 goals. We get beat.

Glorious failure tipified those days.
It made the Martin O'Neil era all the more enjoyable though.

 

I think Celtic will do well in Scotland and Europe,we won't win, champions league but if we fall into Europe league we could do ok

 

I think Tommy was trying to get Mark Rippier in that year,Wim got him next year the rest is history
