We can just start with the news that Johnny Kenny has extended his deal until 2029. What are your thoughts on that?
Brendan Rodgers: Yes, it's good news for Johnny and the club. He's a young player that was signed a few years ago, went away, got experience, has come back, and we can really see the difference in his development since he came back in January. We think he's still got a load more development to go. He's quick, he's hungry, and we think in the future he can be a really good asset for the club.




Is he likely to be part of the first-team squad here this season, or can you see him going out on loan somewhere else to gain that valuable experience?
Rodgers: Well, at this very moment, he's here and a part of our squad. I think you look through to the end of the month and obviously, there's still work across the squad to do. But right now, he's had a really good pre-season and has worked very hard. This will give him confidence and that feeling that he's wanted at the club. And then, like with all the players, we'll always assess where they're at. But at this moment, he's very much in our thinking.


There was perhaps some surprise that Shin Yamada was on the bench last weekend. Is there a plan for him?
Rodgers: I don’t know whether you watched the game, but I put Johnny Kenny on. You can only play 11 players and we have a big squad. Adam came off, Johnny came on, and we scored. We freshened the team with two changes and one of them scored. Johnny has done well in pre-season — worked hard, been intense, created goals. I’ll always make changes based on what the game needs.

 

Are the * in the boardroom trying to * off the fans even more? This makes absolutely no sense. 4 years? He’s not good enough. It’s like the McCarthy fiasco. A shambles from a club with no direction or ambition.

 

I'm fine with this if he goes out on loan, I do think he has a bit about him.
