It’s something I’m sure is always the case, but previous years I feel it’s not been with Desmond being specifically mentioned as part of the planning. Usually it’s been Lawwell, and latterly Nicholson/Lawwell.

He needs to give Brenda a blank cheque.

We should be getting to the semis next year.

This always is a confusing point, anytime players who have now left talk about signing, when they’re a certain level Desmond is very involved. Not so much negotiating thats left to guys like Lawwell but he schmoozes * out of them. His Private plane for them into London, glamorous hotels etc. restaurants, phones or is with them asking how they are, hows the wife etc.

Any medical we do in London, he’s very involved.

And if you believe in some rumours around the club, which I do with this one, Rodgers tends to go directly to him since January window last season. And I believe that because when that leaked it was BR saying get Lawwell Jr to * and 2 weeks later he was. And then since then, we spent the most money we ever have in a season, broke our transfer record twice and rounded out Jota in the top 3. Might be wrong on Jota, cos I’m not sure if he was £8m or £10m. If the former, he’s 4th then.

    * we brought in KT, even with his injuries we would have needed to show ambition to do that. That’s flew under the radar a bit because he is Celtic daft. But at 27, first time we’ve ever actually brought them in peak age when we have a chance to, usually dont even ask the question.

Martin O’Neill insists Celtic chief Dermot Desmond will back Brendan Rodgers in the transfer market but won’t be brow beaten into paying over the odds to finance a second successive summer splurge.

O’Neill spoke out in Desmond’s defence with the club’s supporters currently questioning whether the Irish tycoon shares Rodgers’ ambition to drive up standards heading into the new campaign

But, while the former boss is adamant that Desmond is equally determined to improve the team, he expressed doubts over the owner’s willingness to repeat the £26m recruitment drive which brought Adam Idah, Arne Englesand Auston Trusty to Glasgow’s east end 12 months ago.

Those deals saw Rodgers smash the club’s transfer record twice in the final hours of the window to complete his summer spree - with Idah and Engles costing a combined sum over more than £20m.

Now Rodgers is looking for more of the same with less than two weeks to get his squad prepared for a Champions League play-off tie against Slovan Bratislava or the Kazakhstanis of Kairat.

And O’Neill dropped a huge hint Desmond may adopt a more cautious approach to this season’s spending plans.

Asked if he can assure supporters that Desmond will be setting his sights for Celtic as high as the manager, O’Neill answered: “Absolutely no question about it. Dermot will have a vision of the football club but as a club owner or as a major shareholder and the person who's making the decisions, he might see going forward in a different light than the manager.

“Seriously, he might not always think that spending £14m or £15m pounds on a player is necessarily the way to go. And we'd have to say that in terms of the dealings in recent times, he might be right.

“Now, I don't know what players Brendan's looking for. He'll be looking to improve the team. And I'm quite sure, honestly, I'm quite sure he’ll do that.”

But O'Neill admits the club's anxious fans will want to know if Rodgers plans to stick around beyond the end of a three year deal which runs out at the end of this season.

But he insists Desmond will be backing the boss in a bid to tempt him into penning a new deal. He said: "From the fans' viewpoint, that's something that they would probably like to know as there’s a bit of uncertainty around it

I don't know Brendan's situation in terms of I have not been speaking to him about that, that is none of my business.

“But I do know the fellow he's dealing with, and that would be Dermot. And I would think from a distance that Dermot would want Brendan to stay at the football club.

Brendan had a good year last year - excellent getting through in the Champions League. I think he would want to try and push even further to try to make that second group stage.

“So, I can only imagine that there is a mutual understanding between the two of them.

“I would be very surprised if Brendan were to leave. I think Celtic would want him, and if Brendan was saying, 'Oh, I'll just see this one out,'. I would bet it would only be his choice.”

Would have thought M'ON wouldn't be doing Desmonds dirty work for him.

It's a cheap attempt at pushing back at Rodgers comments recently.

And now we know where the issues lie....the absentee landlord who has us a side project.

He needs to * off. And when he gets there, he can * off from there.

    Grifter.....

Must be bullshit because we are being told by some in here that Desmond doesn’t make the decisions for the club. Another ex-manager saying he decides how the club is run and we still have people in here saying otherwise :giggle1:

Id love to know how Desmond wines and dines these Irish managers into chatting this type of pish.

Lennon, MoN, even Brendan after he left first time, all wax lyrical about this * and what a great guy he is and how he wants whats best for US.

    Desmond is a * *. End of.

Dermot Desmond sees the "club". He doesnt see the hundreds of thousands of supporters who make it what it is.
To say he is one of us is a joke. He has absolutely zero ambition beyond a balance sheet trophy and keeping a pinky toe in front of Sevco.
He been holding us back since he took the reigns and these days is absolutely choking the club to death with his bullshit.
The * Daniel Levy of Scottish football. And does anyone doubt the Levy loves Spurs?
Nobody doubts Desmond loves "Celtic". But hes * destroying us with his regime.

I was at flag day the season after we stopped Rangers 10.
Half the crowd was booing the Bunnet. Booing him. Fans all around me were angry, confused, and even i as a kid understood why they were upset. Rangers were splashing cash and we stood still after finally stopping them.
The difference? The money literally just wasnt there. Sure we could have done better in the market, and losing Wim was a massive blow.

But even today, fans will ALWAYS be grateful and appreciative of The Bunnet for saving us from ruin, building our beautiful stadium and securing our existence.

What does Desmond have as a legacy? * nothing imo. We'd still be going toe to toe with "Rangers" if they hadnt imploded, and even then he did * all to take advantage.

MoN can literally go * himself as far as im concerned. Chatting that *, again ffs. Must be fifth or sixth time now, and always when Desmond * up our transfer window. Get tae * Martin.

We in Ireland of a certain age remember his dodgy dealings in the 90's. We remember the Moriarty Report and Glackin Report. Look them up. I hate having him near our club, success or not. A financier who was an opportunist and used dodgy Politicians to advance himself. He can * off.
