    Desmond baffles me.

Talks of us doing great things and has personally appointed one of the best managers in Britain twice yet continually allows him to have his legs cut away from under him by that fat * Lawwell.

For a guy who's been such a successful businessman it's bizarre the amount of mismanagement he allows to go on at the club.

Clearly Rodgers isn't happy with how the club is progressing, if Desmond rates him so highly why isn't he asking his advice, ask him where we are failing compared to previous clubs Rodgers has worked at.

Surely someone as intelligent as him can see the need to modernise and see if he doesn't or if he doesn't have the desire to do it, then walk away

Could not agree more. The fact that we are going into the opening game of the season this weekend with a lineup that is weaker then finished last season and less quality in the squad depth wise on top of that is a disgrace. To say we need new forward thinking minded people on our board is quite the understatement to say the least.

What's the bets to compound everything when the UCL draw is made on monday we then take a decision to postpone the livingston home game and you will have had people pay for flights/accommodation etc

Rumours that museum and hotel would cost £250m. Which I find hard to believe. But anyway.

Desmond won't pay for it out his own pocket.

Its kind of just long past time I think the board became more transparent about their strategy, opened up communication with the fanbase and set out some tangible targets.

As long as they accumulate and sit on large cash reserves then the circle of mistrust and resentment between board and fanbase continues - and it does neither any favours.

Since we have been dominating the domestic scene, the titles won have prevented this from spilling over. But you could see from the covid year how quickly the fans are prepared to turn on the board if things go badly. I think it would only take not winning the title for it to get explosive again because there is no goodwill and deep mistrust there.

The board will call it entitled fan behaviour but they know how the relationship stands right now. They know the fans view and what is grating at them. The see everything from pundits to media to the manager questioning their ambition and their strategy constantly. But they still choose not to engage or communicate and to let this fester.

If they are confident in what they are doing and that their strategy is correct - then why not at least attempt engage with the fans on it on at least a high level. E.G:

    • Whats their rationale for the current cash reserves?
    • Is it purely held as a safetly net?
    • If so - how much cash reserves do they think are needed? Why?
    • Are there any plans to utilise the cash reserves?
    • Is there are an amount they are trying to get to before they will change strategy?
    • Is there any commitment to re-invest a certain % of player sale revenue? If not why?
    • Is there any commitment to reaching a benchmark in Europe? What kind of spending are they prepared to commit to that?
You may not like or agree with the answers given but if there was a better understanding of why the board are pursuing the strategy they are and if the board were actually able to make some genuine commitments it would reduce a lot of the negative noise that occurs pretty much every window now.

Looks like the Board acknowledge the coaching skills of BR and how he can nurture and improve players. However its also obvious they dont have confidence in his ability to get value for money(i.e.Trusty 6m,Idah 9m,Engels 11m).
Still, got a month to go for transfers...along with more scrutiny and sniping to come from the media.

Those 3 guys cost as much as they did bcoz we had to pay a premium do to the board waiting until the last 2 weeks of the window to get them.

Yet as usual they don't learn and here we are again into August with big businesses still needing done.

Article from Paul Larkin on Substack

Normally when you do a piece asking any sort of questions of Celtic you always get a few people spitting the dummy and at least one Celtic employee trying to deflect.
Not so with my last piece.
As well as my biggest numbers ever on here, I got constant praise and several Celtic employees nodding in agreement.
Uncharted territory for me I can tell you!
A bit more digging and it’s clear there’s been a breakdown at Celtic.
My understanding is there are six players lined up but Dermot Desmond has refused to sanction any of them. As I’ve said in a few articles, I’ve been told time and again that Desmond has already stood down Peter Lawwell and, by some accounts, the PR Department (I say department; there’s two of them) and therefore no briefing is going on at all.
One of my many bug bears regarding Desmond is the way he acts like he owns the club. He doesn’t. In fact, if he he bought 100% of the shares then he could do what he wanted, whether we liked it or not but he hasn’t so he can’t.
Where this leaves the future of Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay I don’t know. Their stand off attitude with fans and seeming unwillingness to stand up to Desmond has already alienates a lot of the support(for all Lawwell’s faults, he could and did stand up to Desmond)
Then there is the manager. I believe if he hadn’t committed to three years then he would be gone by now. (Listen, the guy is loaded, relatively young and doesn’t need the hassle of trying to manage with two hands tied behind his back)
Which all leads to Celtic entering a season much weaker than last. This is all opinion and you’ll have noticed, like me, the reluctance from anyone at Celtic TV, the View and so on to ask the manager anything about new signings, but I think we need a goalkeeper, left back, centre half, centre mid, winger and striker.
Which leads me back to Desmond. What is he playing at? Because right now it seems like Golf and funny buggers.

See the thing is I’m not really sure that Desmond can actually make those decisions and stop transfers from taking place. He is not a majority shareholder and we are not a private company. He himself cannot unilaterally do those things I think. Now he may hold enough sway over enough board members to stop things from happening.

We have a CEO and CFO and a board who together make operational decisions. Clearly too many on our board as well as our CEO have shat their pants and just won’t stand up to him. A shareholder should have absolutely no say in operational decisions, that is for full time employees to make.
