Maybe so but his injuries are a worry. He's a big guy too so I'd worry with knee injuries with his build. He's cost us a few goals in Europe on the ball with Bruges and Lazio in the past few seasons. It's more than he's hitting 28, has injury problems and has not exactly excelled in Europe. A very solid defender for us at domestic level and I'd like for him to stay but I just don't really see him excelling enough to attract a move away for us to a higher level.

I don't don't think it does personally. Think Osmand might have been similar in that he won some award in PL2 last season. By all accounts he had an absolute horror show v Sporting in the CL last season. He'll probably be fine in domestic games where we have the ball and want to play it out from the back but I can't see Rodgers trusting him in many big games. It will be Scales or Trusty for those.

And it's a loan and if we have no option on him we are as well stick with what we've got than developing a player for another team.

Don’t think we’d bother loaning a player with no option to buy unless we believe he can be better than Trusty and Scales. Time will tell.

Above all the defenders we thought might be better than Trusty or Scales, we settled on a rookie centre back who we are not paying any money for? The reason we settled for a loan is because it's a cheap option, not because we're convinced he'll be an upgrade. If we spent money on a defender it would be far more an indictment we believed in the player we're signing.

Talented young guy, potential top class, brought in to contribute to a team on the up and up.

Sometimes you just need to STFU and allow good things to happen.

You've never even seen him play.

I wish you'd follow your own advice given every contribution I've seen from you so far is nonsensical and driven by absolutely nothing substantive.

Everyone has to start somewhere and being one of the best players in one of the best youth academies in the world is a solid start. Give the lad a chance ffs. You probably said the same about Roberts, Frimpong and Denayer

In isolation, id be very happy with this signing but i genuinely feel like this window is a shambles.

I’m negative at the best of times but i feel absolutely gutted at how little ambition we have.

Seems like a bad move to me on face value. Doesn't show ambition in terms of moving the squad forward, more like a panic buy or could be our last, best option in that position. Time will tell but I agree with others who are disappointed so far.

I'm in minority here thinking he's a good squad addition to squad to an area that we are fairly well set across the back 4.
It's other areas of the team that need investment.

CCV and Trusty will be first choice, Scales, Murray and this lad will come in to cover.

Loan only is not good, but if City flatly refused buy option what do you do?

I think most came into the window expecting another outright first choice CB to be bought, is probably where the frustration comes from.

I still don't trust Rodgers to drop scales either. It's my one continuing gripe with him.

He can have a chance but he's not our player - that's the problem. I'd rather give Murray that chance, he may not turn out to have the career the other guy has but he could be here next year to contribute so its far more beneficial developing our own players. Murray has also had a decent pre season.

Celtic have agreed to sign Man City defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League giants have accepted a loan offer from the Scottish champions for the 19-year-old.

He has been given the green light to head to Celtic by City and put the finishing touches to the season-long deal.

It is believed not to include an obligation to buy

Celtic regard the transfer as a “huge coup” after fending off interest from multiple clubs for the rising star, who has already made his Premier League debut for City.

On Monday (28 July), Football Insider exclusively revealed that both Celtic and Strasbourg had submitted offers for Simpson-Pusey.

However, the Glasgow giants have beaten the French side to a loan deal, with Brendan Rodgers bolstering his defence ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Simpson-Pusey joined the Man City academy at the age of eight and has come through the ranks at the club.

The England under-18 international made his senior debut for Pep Guardiola’s side last season, as well as impressing in the Premier League 2, picking up the division’s player of the season award.

Hardly a * huge coup being a straight loan. Be interested to see Rodgers comments on him, he must of been the one to push for him hopefully with the premise the cash gets spent on the attack.

Trusty in Europe and in this preseason has shown me enough to give him the start with CCV. That gives us scales and a backup loan of decent quality. I see nothing wrong with it if it means we can go get a cracking right winger.

I’d be happy to give Murray a run but we’d be a CCV injury away from a serious defensive issue especially for Europe right enough. Can only hope the board deliver now.

Genuinely don't see the issue. Even if he does become a regular Man city may sell slightly cheaper to us or he may be more willing to come to us permanently if we ask. And if he turns out to be crap then we've not spent a huge amount.

We've managed the champions league for 2 years in a row without CCV so we'll manage :56:
