He won't be and he said himself in his interview, he prefers to play centrally and he essentially done that at FCN. They play a very narrow front 3, where both 'wingers' were essentially attacking midfielders.

Idah couldn't displace Kyogo when he was missing sitters all over, then Maeda was getting the nod ahead of him til Jota got injured and we were forced into moving him back out left, I think Rodgers has seen enough of Idah and knows he doesn't have it in him to be the main man. Maeda stays up top and we sign another wide player imo.

I'll give you a better bookmark. We will go back to a 4-2-3-1 and Nygren will play as an attacking midfielder, with Engels and McGregor as a double pivot. Maeda up front, New LW and a New RW.

It's like one of those deep philosophical questions with no true answer you ponder for days and weeks, cause no * actually knows.

Hoard money and Lawwell waits until the end of the transfer window to see what players are not wanted by EPL clubs and Benfica and what agents are offering so we can get them in on loan, all the while we sell our best players. I do believe our scouting system is not the worst, we can identify players but the Tories who run our club on austerity have zero interest on spending money and committing to buying players, for a club who apparently operates a player trading model we have some bizarre outlook. I've had a look at us over a number of seasons now. We have brought in the following players on loan in the final weeks of the season.

2011 - El Kaddouri - Deadline day loan - FAIL
    2012 - Brozek - Deadline day loan - FAIL
    2012 - Miku - Deadline day loan -- FAIL
    2012 - Kamenar - Deadline day loan - FAIL
    2013 - Noring - Deadline day loan - FAIL
    2013 - Oberschmidt - Deadline day loan - FAIL
2014 - Wakaso - Deadline day week loan - FAIL
    2014 - Guidetti - Deadline day loan - FAIL
    2015 - Blackett - Deadline day loan - FAIL
2016 - Roberts - Deadline day loan - Did well for us but ultimately we couldn't buy him and never replaced him - FAIL
    2017 - Edouard - Deadline day loan - SUCCESS
    2018 - Musonda - Deadline day loan - FAIL
    2018 - Bain - Deadline day loan - FAIL
    2018 - Benkovic - Deadline day loan - FAIL
    2019 - Toljan - Deadline day loan - FAIL
2019 - Forster - Deadline day loan - Did well for us but ultimately we couldn't buy him and didn't replaced him - FAIL
2019 - Elyonoussi - Deadline day loan - FAIL for me, didn't give us enough and we were never going to buy him
    2019 - Bauer - Deadline day loan - FAIL
    2020 - Duffy - Deadline day loan - FAIL
    2020 - Laxalt - Deadline day loan - FAIL
    2021 - Kenny - Deadline day loan - FAIL
    2021 - Jota - Deadline day loan - SUCCESS
    2021 - CCV - Deadline day loan - SUCCESS
    2022 - Abildgard - Deadline day loan - FAIL
2023 - Bernardo - Deadline day loan - MEH - not a fail but merely squad filler so far
    2023 - Phillips - Deadline day loan - FAIL
2024 - Idah - Deadline day loan - FAIL - did a job for us that season but no option to buy meant we got our pants pulled down when we went to buy him
    2024 - Valle - Deadline day loan - FAIL
    2025 - Schlupp - Deadline day loan - FAIL

That is our policy there, wait around until the end of the window, let agents and clubs approach you with players they want off their wage bill and then take them on a temporary basis with an alarming rate of failure. The only players we signed outright in that listing were Edouard, CCV, Jota, Bernardo and Idah. Idah was the only one we signed with no option and we got raped on his transfer fee. This is the way Lawwell does business, we have a scouting team that go out and identify some good players but we won't buy them unless they are going cheap as chips so we decide to take rejects from other sides who a lot of the time don't fit into us or I think don't really want to be here.

The fact is we never scouted Jota, we just got lucky, his agent and club were offering him about and we happened to need a winger. If he had been available for £4m that summer we would likely have said no.

The depressing thing about is that next season will likely be no different unless we have a COVID like season and fans start rioting again and the atmosphere turns toxic.

So basically every loan deal that doesn't materialise into a permanent transfer is a fail? Rubbish

In my opinion, yes. Why wouldn't they? Loans (exc obligations) are for clubs who have financial issues and generally hover round the bottom of their leagues. They are not how clubs who are striving for success operate. When you look at that list compiled there and you come to a different opinion then I think you need your head examined, frankly.

When Forster and Roberts loan deals expired, where did that leave us next season for example? I'll answer that for you - minus two key players and nothing to compensate their absences.

    Celtic scouting and transfer handbook.

    Step 1. Identify a player

Step 2. Monitor the player for a MINIMUM of 1 year.

Step 3. Agree they might be what we want, as after all we've needed this plafer for over a year (can't be too careful though). Approach the club regarding the transfer fee.

Step 4. Low ball the * out of it. They ask for 5mil you offer 1mil. Infact, feel free to start lower.

Step 5. Leak it to the press to try put pressure on selling team. This will coincide with us upping the bid 100k or so.

Step 6. If Step 5 didn't work (why wouldn't it though?). If fans are getting unruly then up the bid another few hundred grand (it shows them we are trying).

Step 7. Realise the selling club are not idiots and they wont accept less. You never know though so up the offer another 50k as after all we are Celtic.

Step 8. Watch the player sign for another club for close to the club's initial valuation.

Step 9. Make it known its hard to buy players but we are trying. Hopefully nobody looks at the hundreds of other deals being done across Europe

The scouting seems better this year, been linked with a lot of exciting players but that’s the issue only linked. The board need to get their hands in their pockets pronto, if we don’t get through to the CL it’s on them and no one else.

Last year the same, we have been linked with the likes of Jashari, Sanchez, Orjasaeter, Kvistgarden, Nanzinho etc in the past few seasons so clearly identifying players is not an issue for us in that time. The problem lies with the board, with Nicholson, Lawwell, Desmond and whoever holds the final say there - unless we are able to get them for under £5m we will baulk at it. We could have the next Messi or Ronaldo there and they could be well within our reach but we're not interested unless they are able to be got for peanuts.

Ajax have signed 2 players this season, both were linked with us in the past, they paid €9.5m for Moro and are going to pay €14m for Gloukh.

Remember we are the team that offered Rivaldo a trial.

We have never changed nor will we either.

I think the best way of summing up how I feel about celtic when it comes to transfers and recruitment is that it always feels like the club are attempting to give us the bare minimum. Its not the best player they can find its the cheapest player who can do a job. Don't get me wrong pieces lf business like Nygren makes total sense, but at some point you just need to pay the going rate for a top quality player and that seems to be a stumbling block for us despite the finances available. Assets in the bank prioritised to assets on the field.
