The core of the current squad is largely still made up by players the previous manager signed. I know every manager wants their own players in but aye, Rodgers potentially being in his final season is irrelevant. We should be signing the very best players we can afford at all times, regardless of manager.

 

Rumour I got told last week is Desmond has set a limit of £5m and can't buy anyone with tattoos.

I'd laugh but it's starting to feel plausible.

 

When that came out, I was told by someone who works in the game that football clubs just don't operate like that. Personally I think it's nonsense, mate. By all accounts Desmond is very standoffish in his approach.

 

He rarely gets involved in transfer dealings. He's got no reason to stall negotiations when it's not his job to do so.

THERE'S been plenty of ins and outs at Parkhead already this summer - and more are expected in the coming days and weeks.

But before one out-of-favour Celtic star is allowed to leave, another MUST come in.


Marco Tilio is one player who's set to depart before the end of the window after failing to win over Brendan Rodgers following his return to Glasgow after his loan spell in Australia.

The 23-year-old winger has been tracked by a number of clubs throughout the window, including his former club Melbourne City who want him back for another stint.

Tilio, however, has made it clear that he wants to stay in Europe this year.

That has sparked interest across the continent, but one club have been leading the race for his signature in recent weeks.


Rapid Vienna - Nicolas Kuhn's old club - have been eyeing a deal for the Hoops outcast as they search for a replacement for ex-Celtic target Isak Jansson who joined Nice.

It's believed the Austrian outfit are keen on signing Tilio on an initial loan with an obligation to buy next summer.

Both Tilio and Celtic are hopeful of thrashing out a deal which allows him to become the Scottish champion's latest departure.

There are complications, though, as Rodgers is seriously lacking wide options following the exit of Kuhn and Jota's lengthy injury lay-off.



SunSport understands the 23-year-old will NOT be allowed to seal the move until Rodgers brings another winger in.

The Hoops have been locked in talks with Dutch side Go Ahead Eagles for Jakob Breum but are no further forward in their pursuit having had TWO approaches booted out.


It's suggested that a bid of around £1.3million for the 21-year-old earlier this summer was "laughingly rejected" by his club.

The Eredivisie side are standing firm on their £5m valuation of the payer.

Another winger the Hoops have been long-term admirers of is Antwerp's Michel-Ange Balikwisha.

 

Mate he doesn't even attend the AGMs. I don't doubt he keeps himself informed but you're kidding yourself on if you think he gets regularly involved with player recruitment.

"Just to clarify the position - it came up in a number of times in misinformed press reports and other commentaries about recruiting players - in the last 20 odd years, the manager of the club decides what players to take in, not the board, not anybody else.

"Searches provide information to the manager, the manager then makes a decision, maybe in conjunction with his coaching staff.

"He makes the ultimate decision, he's chairman of the board. Ange is chairman of the board at Celtic as far as football recruitment is concerned, and all things football are concerned.

"He is the person, and he is the person that takes the brickbats and the credit, so that's the recruitment policy.

"It's not the board that decides yes or no. What the board does do, it will set out the budget of what we can afford, so that we are going to be prudent, financially prudent, in the way we run the club."

Deadline for registrations for CL is about a fortnight away, with the lack of targets and slower than snails pace and professionalism at which we progress things, the squad will be as it is for the qualifiers.

We're 4 short for thay tie alone. 6bfor the entire window. Thats more than hard luck or natural circumstances. Thats just negligence. Window after window of the same *. Farcical that such competent business van make such a * show of grinning a football side. What would it take to hire the right peoplenfor the roles required, amd watch them.go and reap even bigger rewards. CL every season for example.

aye but what happens when a manager thinks we need a better player than the 4 or 5 on the list he gets to choose from ,are the wingers we are looking at presently gonna be any better than palma ? desmond can pretend the manager is charge all he wants but when lawwell and co get to limit the players available to the manager its their recruitment, iwould be amazed if the * contest between rodgers and lawwell aint still in full swing especially after his son getting the boot
