Yamada looks like he'd do Maeda before they set off :giggle1:

Surprised at how strong he actually was last night and the impact he made. Was promising. You'd just release dudah at this point..

If we get a season long Kuhn type and no 6 month we'll deffo skelp sides on the break..

I'm surprised there's not been a video of all his touches. They were rapid with that for Inamura.

New Celtic signing Shin Yamada says it will take time to build connections with his new teammates following his first appearance for the club against Al-Ahli in the Como Cup.

Yamada, who scored the winning penalty in the shoot-out to edge past the Saudi Arabian side after the teams drew 1-1, was made to wait to don his new club’s colours as UEFA registration rules meant he was declared ineligible an hour before the 5-1 defeat to Ajax.

The striker’s impact was immediate, bringing energy to the front three, but he was evidently often frustrated by the timing of passes that saw him stray offside on multiple occasions.

“I need to demand that my team-mates pass in certain moments,” said Yamada. “That part of my game is one I need to improve with my team-mates.”

“I have a lot of confidence,” he said when asked if he could hit the ground running in front of goal, “however, without my team-mates I can’t score and I need to build that relationship with them

Like Reo Hatate, Yamada was signed from Japanese J1 League side Kawasaki Frontale, winning the Super Cup before arriving in Glasgow.

The 25-year-old believes it was the right time to move and advance his career.

“I’m not too young anymore and I wanted to challenge myself,” he said. “I had the option to stay in Japan as well, but the decision I made was good for my career.”

Albeit the choice to leave his boyhood club proved a difficult one, as fans expressed their appreciation for the forward during a heartfelt farewell.

“It’s the club I grew with and the one that took care of me since the academy,” said Yamada. “I wanted to contribute more but I had another dream to pursue for my career. It was very sad and in a way regretful, but I had to make that decision.”

“It was emotional and it’s a club I really love, but by coming to Celtic I feel I can improve more and that’s why I made the decision,” he said. “The Champions League is a competition I have admired and have dreamed of playing in.”

Yamada and Frontale endured a difficult season, but the one-cap international had managed an impressive 19 goals in 38 league games in the previous campaign, showing that he has the raw ingredients to fill the goalscoring gap left by Nicolas Kuhn and Kyogo Furuhashi.

Aware of Furuhashi’s achievements, Yamada said the two share some traits in their style of play, adding that his point of difference was “speed and power”, which he hopes will allow him to contribute as significantly as his predecessor, who left for Rennes in January having scored 85 goals in 165 games.

Prior to moving to Glasgow, Yamada said he had done his research and spoken to both the club’s staff and Hatate about life in the city, with the midfielder being one of the four Japanese players in the squad.

“Reo and I had a call before I came over and he gave me some recommendations. Also having Daizen (Maeda) and Inamura (Hayato) here helped me and that really helps,” said Yamada, who said he plans to continue to build on the English he studied back home.

With the Como Cup behind them, Celtic will now look forward to kicking off their league campaign against St Mirren on Sunday, before discovering their opponent for the Champions League Play-off round the following day.

Time will tell but lets hope so. I imagine he will start on the bench next weekend but certainly he has the pace thats for sure. Now can he settle into our team and adapt to our league and how good is he in front of goal. Hopefully he comes right in and smashes it as you say right from the off just like Kyogo and Hatate did when they first arrived.

His offside goal isn’t something to be scoffed at. So many of our forwards hit that straight at the keepers midriff of flash it wide.

I’d say kyogo in his prime will take some beating but Kyogo last season before he left….no reason yamada can’t instantly come in and do better

Can see him taking over from Idah as our first choice striker pretty quickly

We still need another striker anyway. But he does look ideal for us.

Refreshing to see a striker take the ball in and hold it.

Hope your right. In fairness given his attributes he is definitely worth buying but if he is supposed to be Kyogo's replacement then we are taking a big gamble. Time will tell and we will likely see him on the bench this weekend to start the season but how much time he gets remains to be seen.

He looks quicker than Kyogo for me..

Kyogo has elite level movement and would also play offside, giving him a head start when the likes of Maeda or Kuhn for example burst away with the ball with their elite level speed..

Kyogo was still pretty quick off the mark...but Yamada looks rapid..

I'm confident he'll do well here as well..

I get the feeling if he can get a couple of goals early on he could really get the confidence up and be a good signing for us. He certainly has a lot about him in terms of movement, that low centre of gravity and strength for his size. The run down the left and pick out of McCowan was impressive and really should have been put away but went to McCowan’s weaker foot.

I hope he starts on Sunday.
